The Analytical Lab Supervisor oversees the day-to-day operations of Thorne's Analytical Laboratory, ensuring testing activities are performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable quality and regulatory standards. This role leads laboratory personnel, manages daily workflows, and supports the timely delivery of accurate analytical results that are essential to product quality, manufacturing operations, and regulatory compliance.

Working closely with Quality Control, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, Regulatory Affairs, and other cross-functional teams, the Analytical Lab Supervisor ensures laboratory operations adhere to Laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), ISO 17025 requirements, and Thorne's Hazardous Material Safety Program. The ideal candidate is a hands-on laboratory leader with strong technical expertise, a commitment to quality and data integrity, and a passion for developing high-performing teams while driving continuous improvement across laboratory operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the Analytical Laboratory, ensuring testing activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established priorities and quality standards.
  • Supervise, train, mentor, and develop laboratory personnel, ensuring employees receive timely training on analytical methods, laboratory procedures, safety requirements, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), and applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Oversee laboratory workflows, including routine testing, stability studies, retained sample management, documentation, and resource planning to support manufacturing and business objectives.
  • Review analytical data, laboratory documentation, specifications, validation protocols, stability protocols, investigation reports, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead investigations of Out-of-Specification (OOS) and other atypical laboratory results, partnering with cross-functional teams to perform root cause analysis, implement corrective actions, and prevent recurrence.
  • Partner with the QC Data team to resolve testing issues, ensure data integrity, and maintain laboratory records in accordance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Ensure laboratory instrumentation, equipment, and supporting software are properly maintained, calibrated, and qualified to support reliable analytical testing.
  • Maintain the Analytical Laboratory in an inspection-ready state by ensuring compliance with GLP, cGMP, ISO 17025, and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Support the Quality Control Laboratory Manager in maintaining and continuously improving the laboratory Quality Management System (QMS), including ISO 17025 compliance, audit readiness, and quality system effectiveness.
  • Promote a culture of data integrity, impartiality, confidentiality, safety, and continuous improvement by identifying risks, implementing process improvements, and fostering operational excellence across laboratory operations.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, Regulatory Affairs, Product Development, and other cross-functional teams to support product quality, resolve technical issues, and achieve organizational objectives.

WHAT YOU NEED
Education & Experience 
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline required, including a minimum of 12 credit hours in college-level chemistry.
  • Experience in an analytical laboratory operating within a cGMP-regulated environment.
  • Hands-on experience with at least two of the following analytical techniques:
    • High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)
    • Gas Chromatography (GC)
    • Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) Spectroscopy
    • Near Infrared (NIR) Spectroscopy
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience in an analytical laboratory environment preferred.
  • Experience supporting laboratory investigations, method validation, stability testing, and quality systems is preferred.
Technical Knowledge 
  • Strong knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), and laboratory quality systems.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 17025 requirements, laboratory documentation, and data integrity principles.
  • Experience reviewing analytical data, laboratory documentation, specifications, validation protocols, stability studies, and investigation reports.
  • Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation, calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and supporting software applications.
  • Ability to interpret scientific data, technical documentation, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and regulatory requirements to support sound technical decision-making.

  • Collaborative leadership style with the ability to build strong cross-functional relationships and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Skills Required

  • B.S. degree in chemistry or science-related field with minimum 12 credit hours in college chemistry
  • Direct experience with two or more analytical methodologies: HPLC, GC, ICP, NIR
  • Familiarity with GLP, cGMP, SOPs, and ISO 17025 quality system requirements
  • Ability to perform investigations for out-of-specification (OOS) results and document dispositions
  • Experience overseeing instrument maintenance and applicable laboratory software
