SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITY
The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing safety requirements, quality standards, and daily manufacturing production, including ensuring efficiency targets are met. This role leads production employees, coordinates workflow, resolves operational issues, and promotes continuous improvement initiatives to support business objectives.
Position Responsibilities
- Ensure a safe work environment. Includes the following:
- Compliance with all EHS policies and procedures is sustained.
- Report and resolve any identified hazards. Investigate workplace accidents/incidents of which you are aware and/or within the work area(s) under your responsibility, which may include but is not limited to conducting interviews with employees, investigating the incident scene, preparing incident investigation reports, and implementing corrective actions.
- In the event of a critical injury, ensure a worker representative of the Joint Health & Safety Committee is notified and assists with the investigation.
- Support employees impaired through injury or illness to safely return to work (Return to Work program).
- Participate in monthly EHS inspections.
- Champion plant 5S activity, ensure regular audits are conducted and issues corrected to ensure the operation meets 5S expectations.
- Ensure conformance to IATF 16949 quality management standards is sustained.
- Maintain process procedures and documentation as applicable. Identify and suggest changes to procedures as appropriate.
- Ensure conformance to all company policies or procedures and hold employees accountable for non-compliance.
- Lead by example.
- Supervise and coordinate daily production activities to meet production schedules and customer requirements.
- Lead, coach, and develop production team members to achieve safety, quality, and performance expectations.
- Monitor and report on assigned KPIs.
- Investigate and resolve production issues, equipment downtime, and workflow bottlenecks.
- Coordinate with Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams to optimize operational efficiencies. Receive and resolve operation problems for their respective department(s).
- Conduct shift meetings and communicate safety, quality and production goals, priorities, and performance results.
- Ensure proper staffing levels and maintain accurate and timely records related to timecards, schedules, attendance, etc. Ensure employees are paid correctly and accurately each payroll. Review Leave of Absence (LOA) requests.
- Perform employee performance evaluations (as applicable) and provide corrective coaching when necessary.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, waste reduction, and cost savings.
- Suggest systems, processes, and activities that increase productivity by improving integration of people, materials, equipment, and finance.
- Introduce or recommend changes to work methods, safety measures and labor organization aligned with MAFACT and MPS methodology.
- Set performance standards and analyze and/or suggest changes to the workplace to maximize worker comfort and efficiency.
- Respond to employee issues, concerns, and suggestions as soon as possible.
- Attend All Employee Meetings (AEMs).
- Ensure that interactions with employees are civil, respectful, and professional always.
- Attend all scheduled training sessions, and complete related training courses before established due dates.
- Provide feedback to employees (both positive and negative) on an ongoing basis.
- Responsible for and accountable for the Employee Opinion Survey (EOS) results and improvement of engagement in his/her respective department.
- All other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- 3–5 years of assembly manufacturing experience.
- 3+ years of supervisory or leadership experience in a JIT Tier 1 automotive production environment. Includes knowledge of manufacturing processes, quality systems, and production reporting systems.
- Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends or overtime as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement methodologies.
- Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems.
- Experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Experience with timekeeping and attendance systems.
