MASS draws on the full toolkit of BlackRock's index, factor, and alpha-seeking investment capabilities to deliver precise investment outcomes and innovative alpha insights. MASS constructs active asset allocation strategies and whole portfolio solutions across a wide spectrum of commingled funds, separate accounts, model portfolios, and outsourcing solutions in the wealth and institutional channels.
BlackRock's Multi-Alternatives (Multi-Alts) team sits at the heart of BlackRock’s Alternative platform, collaborating across investment teams and capabilities. The mission of Multi-Alts is to craft commingled and customized vehicles that take advantage of changing market opportunities by using the full breadth of the firm’s capabilities
Alternative Portfolio Solutions (“APS”) team within Multi-Alternatives (“Multi-Alts”) designs and manages portfolios across a wide range of liquid and illiquid alternative investments, using BlackRock’s investment capabilities and technology to deliver best in class solutions for clients.
The Role
APS is seeking a VP based in London. The new hire will form part of the APS Portfolio Management team, and be responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing management of private market allocations across a range of institutional and wealth mandates. The individual will work closely with internal stakeholders (including partner asset class specialist teams, the Product Strategy team, Global Product Solutions) and external clients to ensure portfolios are constructed and managed in line with investment guidelines, risk parameters, and performance objectives.
In addition, the individual will help drive APS’s portfolio construction and quantitative research process on matters including relative value, risk analysis, position sizing, or performance attribution in private markets.
Responsibilities
- Lead the portfolio construction process for multi-alternative mandates; including strategic asset allocation, implementation planning, and execution of investment programs in partnership with BlackRock Alternatives teams
- Actively contribute to the portfolio construction process for new and existing multi-alternative mandates, including strategic asset allocation, implementation planning, and execution
- Lead all aspects of day-to-day portfolio management activities, including capital deployment, rebalancing, and liquidity management
- Collaborate with the APS Executive Investment Committee (EIC) and Portfolio Management Group (PMG) to evaluate and approve investment opportunities
- Coordinate with specialist investment teams across asset classes to source and monitor investments, including fund commitments, secondaries, co-investments, and direct investments
- Contribute to client reporting, performance analysis, and investment commentary in partnership with product strategists and client servicing teams
- Actively contribute to the product development lifecycle and the operational setup and implementation of mandates, in close collaboration with Global Product Solutions, Legal, Compliance, Tax, and other cross-functional partner
- Support the development and refinement of investment governance frameworks, risk analytics, and optimisation models
Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong academic credentials; undergraduate degree is required, MBA and/or other advanced degree or equivalent experience is helpful
- 7+ years of professional experience preferably in investment management. Private markets investment experience preferable
- Strong quantitative knowledge and skills for continued learning and practically applying portfolio construction and optimization approaches
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Client-centric attitude and approach; skilled in problem-solving and critical thinking
- Experience managing or leading a team including ability to mentor and coach, and lead and inspire
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with modest supervision
- Strong organizational skills: ability to multi-task, prioritize and collaborate vertically/horizontally in a fast-paced environment
- Results-driven with a strong level of attention to detail
