What MatX Is Building

MatX's mission is to make the world’s best AI models run as efficiently as allowed by physics, bringing the world years ahead in AI quality and availability. We are developing vertically integrated full-stack solutions from silicon to systems, including hardware and software, to train and run the largest ML workloads for AGI. We are looking for people who are excited about systems-focused ML research.

What You'll Build Here

• RL environments to teach frontier LLMs how to design hardware and write kernels.
• Evals to measure model performance across frontier vendors for MatX tasks 
• Difficult hardware / software optimization puzzles that challenge even the latest frontier models
• Build tools for making these puzzles easier for both LLMs and humans

Who You Are

• 0 - 2 years experience with systems programming using Rust / Python / HDLs. Linux / Docker experience is a must. Non-coursework projects preferred; in HDL, RTL experience preferred.
• Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Math, or a related field
• Bonuses:
• Experience optimizing hardware for area / timing / power
• ML experience, especially with LLMs
• Experience with CLI coding agents: incl. Codex / Claude Code / Gemini CLI
• This is a hybrid role that will require you to work from our Mountain View, CA office 3 days a week on Tuesday through Thursday.

Compensation

The US base salary for this full-time position is determined based on a variety of factors including role, experience, location, job related skills, and relevant education and training. Career length is only a guideline for compensation.

• $120,000 - $400,000 + equity
