We're looking for a hands-on problem solver and forward thinker who's excited to shape how AI transforms the way we work and build. The AI Innovation Engineer will take the lead in bringing our 4 + 1 AI Strategy to life: building tools, testing ideas, and turning business challenges into practical, measurable solutions. A key focus of this role is applying AI to Building Information Modeling (BIM) and the design-to-construction workflow behind our MEP projects.
This role is perfect for someone who loves to experiment, collaborate, and deliver outcomes that truly make a difference. Sound like you? Let's get started.
position details / responsibilities...
- Create AI solutions the business uses: agents, skills, retrieval, documentation and automation. Some you build directly; some you shape alongside partners and vendors who build with us.
- Apply AI to BIM and VDC workflows. Examples include automating model checks and clash review, extracting and structuring model data, connecting models to estimating, prefabrication and field teams, and building tools that make model information easier to find and use.
- Work side by side with company experts across the divisions, including our BIM/VDC, preconstruction and field teams, turning their hard problems into practical AI solutions.
- Evaluate and integrate modern AI tooling: track what is new, including AI capabilities emerging in BIM and construction technology platforms, run quick trials, and bring the tools that earn their place into how the team and the divisions work.
- Enable others: set and share best practices, review work, and coach the division-embedded people creating their own AI solutions.
here's what we're looking for...
- Roughly 3–5 years of software or data engineering experience, with 1–3 years of hands-on AI/LLM work. Strong recent graduates with a real portfolio of AI work are encouraged to apply.
- Hands-on AI engineering: LLM applications, retrieval, agents, prompt and tool design, evaluation. You deliver in production, not just prototype.
- Exposure to BIM technology in construction, AEC or MEP. You understand how building models are created, coordinated and used on a project, and you've worked with tools such as Revit, Navisworks, Autodesk Construction Cloud or similar platforms.
- Exposure to software and data engineering fundamentals: Python, APIs, data handling, version control, production discipline.
- Strong written and verbal communication. You can explain your work to a non-engineer, document it so others can use it, and walk a team through doing it themselves.
- You enjoy working alongside other people and raising their level. This seat partners with the divisions and enables others, so that has to be something you like, not tolerate.
- Pragmatism: you know when to build, when to use a vendor solution, and when good-enough is enough.
- Experience automating BIM workflows with Dynamo, the Revit API (C#/.NET), pyRevit or Python scripting.
- Familiarity with BIM data standards and formats (IFC, COBie) or with linking model data to estimating, scheduling or fabrication systems.
- Background in MEP design, VDC coordination, or construction project delivery.
- Demonstrate and uphold Power Design's core values, which include integrity, accountability, teamwork, innovation, and growth.
