About this opportunity:
Join our Business Area IPR & Licensing Patent Operations team as an AI and Automation Software Developer. You will help create secure, practical digital solutions that improve how patent professionals work with information and manage daily processes.
You will contribute across the full software development lifecycle, from understanding user needs and developing applications to deployment, maintenance and continuous improvement. Your work may support processes such as patent document analysis, claim comparison, invention evaluation and office-action preparation.
The role is based in Stockholm, with other possible locations in Madrid, Montreal or Aachen.
What you will do:
  • Design, develop and deploy AI-enabled applications and automation solutions for patent-related processes.
  • Build web applications, backend services, APIs, integrations and automated workflows using modern technologies such as Python.
  • Use generative AI and information-retrieval techniques to identify, process and present information from patent databases and other enterprise sources.
  • Develop AI-based assistants and automated solutions that support workflows from start to finish.
  • Integrate language models, enterprise data and machine learning capabilities into user-focused applications.
  • Work with patent professionals and other stakeholders to understand needs and turn them into effective technical solutions.
  • Write clear, maintainable and well-documented code.
  • Ensure that applications are reliable, responsive, maintainable and secure.
  • Apply appropriate controls for authentication, access management, secure data handling, secrets protection, audit records and enterprise-system integration.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and improve existing applications based on user feedback and changing business needs.
  • Keep up to date with relevant developments in artificial intelligence, software engineering and patent technology.

The skills you bring:
  • Three to five years of practical experience developing software, AI-enabled applications, automation solutions or enterprise web applications.
  • A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, software engineering or a related field.
  • Strong Python and backend development skills, including APIs, databases and system integration.
  • Experience developing web applications; full-stack experience is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of web technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript and a modern frontend framework such as React, Vue or Angular.
  • Practical experience with generative AI, language models, retrieval-augmented generation or similar information-retrieval approaches.
  • Experience with SQL or NoSQL databases, REST APIs and software integration.
  • Familiarity with AI and machine learning tools such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, TensorFlow, PyTorch or similar.
  • Experience using Git and collaborative software development practices.
  • Understanding of software development processes, agile ways of working and secure application design.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills, including the ability to explain technical topics clearly to non-technical audiences.

Experience with vector databases, semantic search, prompt design, cloud platforms, containers, Kubernetes, CI/CD or knowledge-intensive domains such as patent technology is an advantage.
