What can I expect from the programme?

Our Graduate programme will give you an experience like no other working within our dynamic Agribusiness team. The team are specialists in the delivery of banking solutions for our Agri customers. With the majority of our staff coming from a farming background themselves, we have a deep understanding of agriculture within New Zealand. We can help our customers by making their banking simple and efficient as well as bringing them insights about their business and sector.  

You’ll start with us as a permanent employee in February 2027 in one of our preferred locations (Palmerston North, Ashburton or Dunedin) on an immersive orientation which will help grow your understanding of Westpac NZ along with the wider grad cohort. At the end of your programme, you’ll be supported to find a suitable role that matches your capabilities and interests within your business area.

Throughout the programme: 

We’ll provide loads of learning and support to help you make the most of the experience. You’ll receive lots of opportunities for learning and growth that will optimise your role performance and career progression. Agribusiness banking Champions, leaders and mentors will support you during the programme experience. The programme is structured to help you identify your focus areas and tailored training sessions will build and strengthen your technical and soft skills - accelerating your personal and professional career development.  Expect to be able to give back, you can join numerous communities, volunteering and sustainability initiatives rounding out your whole work life experience.

The day to day: 

  • Build a through knowledge of Westpac’s banking products and services as well as industry expertise

  • Assist with the analysis of financial information and preparation of customers credit submissions

  • Complete periodic reviews in accordance with credit policy and credit risk management

  • You will gain exposure to a key project, based on a real business problem which you will propose and/or implement a solution and present to key stakeholders.

To be eligible, you must be in your final year of study or have completed an undergraduate or postgraduate degree within the past 12 months. Our Graduate opportunities are entry level roles giving those on the programme broad exposure across the relevant business unit. Additionally, applicants must be New Zealand or Australian citizens or permanent residents.

If you have a drive to exercise your passion for Agribusiness, customer relationships and thrive within a team environment, we have you in our sights. We welcome graduates from Bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness, Agri Commerce or related disciplines who are passionate about helping customers succeed.

  • Experience and understanding of Agriculture within New Zealand

  • Ability to recognise areas of opportunity, to adapt and innovate and to drive productivity

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal)

  • Customer-centric, a team-player who exhibits drive, resilience and high levels of personal integrity and professionalism.
