Primary Summary:

The Afterschool Childcare Site Director is responsible for the overall program development and supervising all on-site staff at the assigned location. These duties will be performed while practicing the Y values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

This position will be assigned to a school site in Hoover, Homewood, or Trussville. The hours are Monday-Friday from 12pm-6pm.

Essential Functions:

  1. Assist in planning, administering, and evaluating the entire afterschool program at the assigned site. 

  2. Assist in staff training, lead monthly meetings, and complete evaluations.

  3. Support youth development administration in the planning, supervising, and implementing curriculum requirements.

  4. Participate in and lead programs and respond to parent concerns to maintain positive relationships and communication with students, parents, and other staff members.

  5. Be on site all day, each day of the program.

  6. May be in charge of a group of students when the need arises.

  7. Responsible for the daily supervision of all counselors and volunteers.

  8. Responsible for following and maintaining childcare policies and practices set by the association.

  9. Maintains proper counselor-to-child ratio to ensure safety and sound fiscal management.

  10. Ensure fidelity and quality standards are being met in the program as they relate to the school partnership agreement and YMCA programming standards, if applicable.

  11. Schedule and develop parent nights.

  12. Manage and maintain inventory of program equipment and supplies.

  13. Attends all staff meetings and required training programs.

  14. Serve as liaison to the school administration at assigned school, if applicable.

  15. Other duties and responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.

Supervisors and administrators will: 

  1. Follow employees' and volunteers' screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk. 

  2. Provide employees and volunteers with ongoing supervision and training related to abuse risk. 

  3. Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with children and teens. 

  4. Require employees and volunteers to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk. 

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's degree in education or other relevant field preferred. High School diploma required.

  2. 1-3 Prior experience in education, recreation, physical education, teaching or childcare preferred.

  3. Minimum age of 21 years old.

  4. Prior experience in staff supervision, program and fiscal management

  5. Successful completion of background and Child Abuse and Neglect screening.

  6. Must be customer service focused with strong communication skills both orally and written with solid computer skills.

  7. Acquire and maintain the following certifications prior to start date via YMCA, American Red Cross, American Heart Association and American Health and Safety Institute (ASHI):

    1. 1st Aid/ CPR /AED (valid 2 years unless otherwise noted)

  8. Requisite Risk Management/Safety Online Training Modules (completed prior to start date and repeated annually).

Physical Demands:

  1. Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.

  2. Ability to be physically active to include, but not limited to walking, sitting, squatting, standing, kneeling, climbing, running, lifting, pushing, pulling, etc.

  3. Must have the physical, visual and auditory ability to perform the essential functions

Skills Required

  • High school diploma
  • Bachelor's degree in education or relevant field
  • 1-3 years prior experience in education, recreation, physical education, teaching or childcare
  • Minimum age of 21 years old
  • Prior experience in staff supervision, program and fiscal management
  • Successful completion of background and Child Abuse and Neglect screening
  • Strong oral and written communication and customer service skills
  • Solid computer skills
  • Acquire and maintain First Aid/CPR/AED certification prior to start
