We are excited to invite a passionate and experienced Afterschool Content Specialist to join our team! Homes for the Homeless (HFH) is searching for an Afterschool Content Specialist for our Families with Children facility in the Soundview area of the Bronx. As the Afterschool Content Specialist, you will develop and deliver engaging, age-appropriate academic and recreational lessons that align with the NYC DOE curriculum and meet the needs of children/youth ages 5–16. You will manage the classroom, support staff, oversee activities, and help ensure a safe, engaging environment that promotes student growth. ABOUT HOMES FOR THE HOMELESS:

Homes for the Homeless operates shelters for families experiencing homelessness in NYC. Our family residences are more than just a place to sleep. Families can make the most of their stay through accessing an array of onsite programs. Many of these programs are also available to people living in the local community. Our goal is to have a positive impact so families can thrive long after they leave our shelters.

 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Select or develop recreational and academic curriculum and lesson plans that align with and support the NYC DOE school-day curriculum.
  • Manage the classroom and provide direct supervision of children/youth, ensuring a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment.
  • Deliver enriching, age-appropriate lessons that support program goals and meet the diverse learning needs of participants.
  • Infuse STEM based learning in lesson plans and ensure all structured activities have clearly defined outcomes (measurable skill gains and/or learning goals for participants).  
  • Oversee and support the implementation of activities led by the Activity Specialist, Group Leader, and Youth Worker.
  • Provide observation, coaching, training, effective supervision, and professional development for program staff.
  • Support compliance and daily operations of the program.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by the Director of Afterschool.



QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field.
  • At least one year of experience in a supervisory/oversight position, including management and development of program content, staff supervision, training, and coaching.
  • Experience or demonstrated skills in STEM, dance, or the arts preferred.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish, preferred.
  • Kind, creative, flexible, and caring personality that works well with children and as part of the afterschool program staff team.
  • Must be willing to undergo a multi-stage background investigation which includes employment history and criminal background check.

SALARY:

$52,000

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field
