Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity  

The purpose of this role is to be the technical go to for Vehicle Regulation. This is an opportunity to provide support, advice, and guidance to our Vehicle Regulations teams and to our regulated parties and key stakeholders in relation to individual queries and approvals. You will be contributing to the delivery of consistent regulatory compliance outcomes, resulting in improved safety within in the land transport system.  

You will be a skilled and regulatory advisor, able to maintain key operational relationships both internal and external, effectively deliver technical information in all aspects and drive consistency through your technical knowledge in an operational environment.

To be successful in this role, you will bring: 

• Technical expertise as well as a desire for technical knowledge.

• An understanding of the legislative setting that we operate within 

• Proven ability to make good risk-based decisions 

• Ability to think at system-wide level  

• Proven writing and communication skills 

• Proven experience managing relationships, and leading, influencing and building credibility across a range of stakeholders. 

• Maintain up to date knowledge of applicable legislation and industry best practice. You keep up to date on technology changes with vehicles and contribute technically to the development of  rule and guidance changes

• Ability to work collaboratively and in partnership with internal and external stakeholders to listen and identify key issues, developing solutions and communicating effectively to ensure our regulatory operations teams are receiving consistent fit-for-purpose advice and support.

• Effectively communicate technical advice.

Qualifications: 

• Relevant industry qualifications in a related discipline or equivalent experience. 

You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.
