This position is in Cargill's animal nutrition and health business, where we improve animal lives through better nutrition. Our team researches, innovates and creates solutions that deliver healthy results for our customers.
Job Summary
The Advisor, Data Engineering job provides thought leadership in the execution of strategic plans related to design, development and maintenance of business data products for the Animal Nutrition & Health Business. As a recognized subject matter expert in the field, this job leads the development of efficient processing and availability of reusable data assets for analytics and reporting.
Essential Functions
  • Provides thought leadership on the design and development of data pipelines that facilitate the movement of data from various sources to internal databases.
  • Influences the construction and optimization of data infrastructure, providing appropriate data formats to ensure data readiness for analysis.
  • Examines and sees improvement opportunities for appropriate data formats to optimize data usability and accessibility across the organization.
  • Cultivates positive relationships and partners to understand data needs and encourage alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Develops and guides the implementation of data products and solutions using advanced engineering and cloud based technologies, ensuring they are designed and built to be scalable, sustainable and robust.
  • Leads efforts to improve the development of technical products and solutions driving big data and cloud based technologies, ensuring they are designed and built to be scalable, sustainable and robust.
  • Drives development standards and brings forward prototypes to test new data framework concepts and architecture patterns supporting efficient data processing and analysis and promoting standard methodologies in data management.
  • Builds automated reporting systems that provide timely insights and facilitate data driven decision making.
  • Provides thought leadership on data modeling and preparation of data in databases for use in various analytics tools and to develop data pipelines to move and improve data assets.

Qualifications
Minimum and Typical Years of Work Experience
  • Minimum requirement of 6 years of relevant work experience. Typically reflects 10 years or more of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated thought leadership and ability to lead complex projects in an ambiguous environment
  • Demonstrated partnership and collaboration with businesses, application and process owners and product team members to define requirements and design product or solutions.
  • Perform complex data modeling and prepare data in databases for use in various analytics tools to configurate and develop data pipelines to move and optimize data assets.
  • Experience with data collection and ingestion capabilities, including AWS Glue, Kafka Connect and others.
  • Experience with data storage and management of large, heterogenous datasets, including formats, structures, and cataloging with such tools as Iceberg, Parquet, Avro, ORC, S3, HFDS, HIVE, Kudu or others.
  • Experience with transformation and modeling tools, including SQL based transformation frameworks, orchestration and quality frameworks including dbt, Apache Nifi, Talend, AWS Glue, Airflow, Dagster, Great Expectations, Oozie and others
  • Experience working in Big Data environments including tools such as Hadoop and Spark
  • Strong programming knowledge of SQL, Python, R, Java, Scala or equivalent
  • Strong experience in working in devops models with demonstratable understanding of associated best practices for code management, continuous integration, and deployment strategies.

Information for Applicants in Minnesota
Minnesota Sick and Safe Leave accruals of one hour for every 30 worked, up to 48 hours per calendar year unless otherwise provided by law.
The expected salary for this position is $169,000-211,000 (annually). Compensation varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific location, certifications, education, and level of experience. The disclosed range estimate may be adjusted for any applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. This position is eligible for a discretionary incentive award. The incentive award amount is dependent upon company performance and your personal performance.
