Position Summary
The Advisor for Academic Success is an entry-level professional role that provides first- and second-year students with individualized support in academic curriculum knowledge, career, and academic guidance. This role requires collaboration with academic faculty and staff. Academic Advisors assist with students’ personal or social issues and encourage the use of other resources provided to students on campus.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provide academic and career advice to first- and second-year students on applicable course selections, academic and University policies and procedures. Average case load is approximately up to 200 students. Expectations are to meet with each student at least two to three times a semester.
- Monitor student academic progress and regularly communicate with students regarding their academic progress.
- Retain advising records and comply with FERPA regulations.
- Provide semester overview of advising appointments including qualitative data on advising and produce reports as needed
- Work directly with, as needed, faculty, division chairs/program directors and school deans.
- Utilize electronic forms and technology to support students
- Utilize higher education software to manage office tasks
- Respond to emails in a professional and timely manner
- Represent department at recruiting and orientation events
- Represent department as needed for committees on campus
- Other duties as assigned or required.

Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Must demonstrate an understanding the Walsh University Statement of Faith and a commitment to support the Mission, Vision, Values and Code of Ethical Conduct of Walsh University in accordance with Ex Corde Ecclesiae and the Catholic intellectual tradition. Must also possess the following:
Education: Bachelor’s degree required.
Work Experience:
- Professional work experience in customer service, student development, or education is a preferred
Skills and abilities:
- Professional demeanor and ability to interact with charity towards students, staff, and faculty. Positive attitude is a must.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with Ellucian, Stellic, Salesforce or Slate is preferred.
- Foundational Artificial Intelligence skills

The physical requirements of the job include prolonged sitting, extended periods of keyboard work and use of a computer monitor, walking, occasional lifting and carrying objects no more than 20 pounds.
