About The Position 

 
As Advancement Writer at RMIT, you’ll tell stories that move people to action. You’ll craft highquality, persuasive communications that bring RMIT’s mission to life, showcase our global impact and inspire major philanthropic support. 
 

Your primary focus will be developing compelling major gift proposals and cases for support that connect donor passions with RMIT’s strategic priorities. You’ll work closely with major gift fundraisers, University leadership and academic staff to turn complex initiatives into clear, engaging, donorcentred narratives. 

 

You’ll also support Advancement more broadly by creating content for multiple channels, helping to shape strategic messaging, and proofreading and editing key materials. With outstanding written and verbal communication skills, confidence working with diverse stakeholders and the ability to manage competing deadlinesyou’ll turn words into impact. 

 

 

To be successful in this position, you’ll have:  

 

  • Exceptional storytelling, writing and editing skills, with a high level of grammatical proficiency and outstanding attention to detail. 

  • Experience in persuasive writing in fundraising, grant writing or donor communications, preferably within a higher education setting and with a focus on major gifts. 

  • Ability to generate materials from scratch, using interviews, research and existing written content. 

  • Ability to write across a wide range of topics, reflecting the breadth of study and research subjects at RMIT, and turn complex information and ideas into clear, engaging narratives. 

  • Experience writing for a range of media including print, online, video, and presentations. 

  • Demonstrated experience using basic design software such as Adobe Express or Canva. 

  • Strong project management skills and an ability to meet deadlines, against a backdrop of competing and sometimes shifting priorities. 

  • High-level interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to work with senior staff in a large and complex organisation. 

  • Demonstrated capacity to work both independently and as a team member to achieve desired outcomes. 

 

Please Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children and National Police Check. 

 

About the Portfolio 

 

The Engagement Portfolio provides integrated, strategic leadership across the University to advance RMIT’s reputation, reach, and revenue, encompassing a range of functions, including domestic and international student recruitment; global marketing; market intelligence and proposition, strategic communications; Advancement (alumni engagement, philanthropy, donor stewardship and donor relations, and Advancement Services); and industry engagement and partnerships. 

 

Through innovation, collaboration, and strategic partnerships, the Engagement Portfolio plays a critical role in diversifying revenue streams and expanding RMIT’s presence in alignment with its long-term strategic objectives. 

 

Advancement develops and leads the engagement of the University’s largest community, alumni (c. 550,000), leads fundraising in support of institutional priorities and stewards donors and alumni to generate measurable impact
