Responsibilities
The Advanced Systems Eng implements electrical projects and is responsible for designing, developing, & implementing PLC software projects as Control Engineer and shall work independently for an integrated system or sub-system.
This role spans from coding and commissioning to technical management and reporting, ensuring projects meet scope, budget, and timeline requirements.
The Controls Automation Engineer takes complete accountability for all automation and controls aspects of assigned projects. This role involves planning, executing, and delegating tasks across the entire project lifecycle, ensuring seamless integration of automation systems. The engineer proactively coordinates and forecasts resource requirements—both in-house and on-site—which may include collaboration with other cross-functional teams. By leveraging expertise in automation technologies, the Controls Automation Engineer drives project success through effective leadership, technical oversight, and continuous process improvement.
The engineer takes a holistic approach in understanding core design features, project elements, overall network architecture, control design requirement and manages the scope, budget, schedule, maintaining internal and external customer expectations throughout the project life cycle.
Technical Required Skills
- System Integration: Design and deploy network architectures that connect multi-vendor hardware using protocols like PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, and Modbus TCP/IP.
- Expertise in Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Programming and Electrical Design of:
- Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Lenze PLC, Beckhoff Programmable Logic Controllers
- Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) setup, configuration and programming.
- Understanding and experience working with various Network Protocols.
- Warehouse control system software interface and protocols
- Human-machine Interface system design, AB-Panel View.
- Scanner and Machine vision system interface
- Networking: Understanding of the OSI model, IP addressing, VLANs, and industrial switching.
- Strong understanding of physical network topologies, including Star, Ring, Mesh, and Bus configurations
- Protocol hands-on knowledge - UART/I2C/SPI/CAN/Ethernet IP/EtherCAT
- Collaborate with other functional engineering teams (Mechanical, Electrical, Software etc.)
- Should be able to Derive and define the System Level Requirements for different Control Architecture
- Good Understanding on Industrial Certifications like ODVA, EtherCAT etc….
- Develop & Test PLC prototypes internally and on site for new/changes in the project
- Experienced in developing system-level DFMEAs, creating test plans and test cases, as well as physically testing and validating those cases.
- Review AutoCAD layouts and schematics to program the PLC system
- Hands-on experience in setting up and using JTAG/SWD for Debugging/troubleshooting
- Work independently on automation projects for material handling, warehouse systems
- Assess programming and commissioning methods to ensure those meet the Intelligrated Coding standards
- Experience in Warehouse Automation Material Handling and baggage handling Systems will be an added advantage.
- Capability to apply broad knowledge of one professional discipline or advanced knowledge of specific technical/operational practices
- Self-motivated and able to work independently, by consistently taking the initiative to get things done
- Capability to update or modify working methods in your role by following defined procedures
- Interest and skill to collaborate with other functional engineering teams
- Ability to consistently make timely decisions even in the face of complexity
