We are seeking a skilled Advanced Mechanical Engineer (Lifing) to contribute to new product development and improve existing designs through the development and application of lifing methodologies for conventional and additively manufactured components.
The candidate will conduct fatigue and damage tolerance analyses alongside component designers, applying fracture mechanics and utilizing specialized tools such as, NASGRO, DARWIN and FRANC3D. Proficiency in data analysis, mechanical testing, and lifing methodologies is essential, as is the ability to complete analyses in accordance with internal, customer, and regulatory requirements. The engineer will also assist with technical input on material characterization test plans for metallic and non-metallic materials.
You will report directly to our Mechanical Design Engineering Manager in our Phoenix, AZ site on a hybrid work schedule. Note: For the first 90 days, New Hires must be prepared to work 100% onsite M-F.
Responsibilities- Fatigue and Damage Tolerance Analysis: Carry out fatigue and damage tolerance analyses for components, using fracture mechanics and relevant software tools.
- Data Analysis and Testing: Perform statistical analysis and plan mechanical testing to support lifing activities.
- Material Characterization: Assist in developing and executing test plans for material characterization (metallic and non-metallic).
- Model Development and Validation: Support the development and validation of life prediction models for parts created through conventional and additive manufacturing.
- Software Proficiency: Apply expertise in damage tolerance including probabilistic damage tolerance and finite element tools such as NASGRO, DARWIN, and ANSYS.
- Collaboration: Work closely with component designers and engineering teams to communicate technical findings and support project outcomes.
Must Haves:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics
- 4+ years of experience in component lifing, solid mechanics, fracture mechanics, damage tolerance analysis, or related fields, preferably working on aerospace engines or turbomachinery.
- Practical experience using Finite Element Analysis, ANSYS preferred.
