We are seeking a highly skilled Advanced Mechanical Design Engineer specializing in Material Characterization. As Advanced Mechanical Design Engineer here at Honeywell Aerospace, you will be specializing in Material Characterization, with our innovative engineering team.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in materials science and mechanical design, focusing on characterizing materials to enhance the performance and reliability of complex mechanical systems. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects in a collaborative environment, contributing to the development of high-performance components for various demanding applications.
You will report directly to our Mechanical Design Engineering Manager in our Phoenix, AZ site on a hybrid work schedule. Note: For the first 90 days, New Hires must be prepared to work 100% onsite M-F.
Responsibilities- Material Characterization: Perform comprehensive material characterization studies, utilizing techniques such as microstructure analysis, mechanical testing, and data modeling to understand the properties and behaviors of materials used in mechanical designs.
- Design Guidance: Integrate insights gained from material characterization to develop guidance for the design process to optimize the mechanical properties and overall performance of components, ensuring durability and reliability in challenging environments.
- Testing and Validation: Conduct experimental testing to validate material performance under various loading conditions, ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
- Troubleshooting: Investigate material performance issues to identify root causes, leveraging advanced analytical techniques. Recommend solutions to mitigate risks and enhance material reliability.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, manufacturing, and quality assurance, to ensure successful integration of material characteristics into product design and development processes.
- Documentation and Reporting: Prepare detailed documentation and reports outlining findings from material characterization studies, testing results, and recommendations for design improvements. Present findings to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive initiatives focused on improving material characterization methods and techniques to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness in the engineering design process.
- Mentorship: Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and team members in the areas of material characterization and mechanical design principles, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and professional development.
Must Haves:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in material characterization, preferably in aerospace, automotive, or related industries.
- Master’s degree in Materials Science, or a related field
- Proficient in material characterization techniques such as mechanical testing, microscopy, and computational modeling tools. Experience with CAD software or coding languages such as Python is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proven track record in assessing material performance and implementing improvements.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical information to diverse audiences.
- Strong understanding of materials science fundamentals with an emphasis in metallurgy, composites, or material processing methods.
- Experience working in a team-oriented environment, demonstrating strong collaboration skills and the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
