The Department handles all state criminal appeals cases and assists district attorneys with complex criminal cases at their request. Additionally, the Department of Justice includes the North Carolina State Crime Lab, the North Carolina Justice Academy, and the Sheriffs’ and Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Divisions.

Recruitment Range: $39,244 - $41,200

This position is with the Sheriffs' Standards Division of the North Carolina Department of Justice.
*This position is responsible for evaluating applications for justice officer certification. This also requires evaluations of in-service and basic training compliance.
*Evaluate responses to pending notices and cease and desist orders.
*Monitor pending applications for second and final notices, and cease and desist orders.
*Provide technical assistance.
*Process changes of status, reports of separation and fingerprint records checks.
This position will independently perform a variety of administrative tasks, applying varied guidelines and program knowledge which requires interpretation to resolve problems. Review and interpret specialized forms and documents in accordance with applicable rules and regulations. Procedural and operational guidelines are normally available, where the position must ensure compliance within established time frames. Position independently chooses the appropriate course of action to produce a variety of records and reports where subject matter and complexity may vary.

2. Ability to learn programs and services and apply this knowledge in

problem-solving in responding to most questions and inquiries.
3. Ability to work independently work with people with courtesy and tact in

performing public contact and communication duties that may be sensitive or confidential in nature.
4. Management seeks individual who is highly organized with an eye for detail.
5. Candidate must be able to work in close proximity to co-workers (cubicle environment).

Minimum Education and Experience

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
