Actuarial Lead (Claims and Reserving)

Great West, An Old Republic Company is seeking a highly analytical and business-minded Actuary to support our reserving and claims analytics functions. In this role, you will play a key part in monitoring reserve adequacy, evaluating claim development patterns, and providing data-driven insights that support financial performance and operational excellence.
Working closely with Claims, Finance, and Actuarial leadership, you will help identify emerging trends, enhance reserving processes, and deliver meaningful analyses that influence strategic decision-making. Location: Corporate office in South Sioux City, NE
Hybrid workstyle: Three days in office, two days remote.
What You'll Do
As a Reserving Actuary, you will support the organization's reserving and claims management efforts through a variety of analytical and strategic responsibilities, including:
- Evaluating the adequacy and consistency of case reserves across lines of business.
- Developing and maintaining frameworks to monitor reserve adequacy and reserve strengthening activities.
- Assessing reserve-setting practices across claim segments, offices, adjusters, and management units.
- Establishing and monitoring reserve performance indicators and key metrics.
- Supporting quarterly and annual reserve reviews using actuarial methodologies and management analyses.
- Quantifying the impact of changes in reserve adequacy on incurred losses and reserve indications.
- Partnering with Finance and Claims teams to analyze reserve development and emerging trends.
- Performing actual-versus-expected analyses and identifying drivers of reserve variability.
- Supporting financial planning, forecasting, profitability analysis, and other reserve-related initiatives.
- Preparing reports, exhibits, presentations, and recommendations for business leaders and stakeholders.
- Collaborating with Claims leadership to identify opportunities for improved reserve discipline and claims handling practices.
- Analyzing claim closure rates, severity trends, litigation outcomes, and other performance measures.
- Monitoring trends affecting claim frequency, severity, inflation, and legal environments.
- Supporting the development of claims dashboards and operational performance metrics.
- Developing statistical models and analytical tools to identify reserve adequacy risks and emerging claim trends.
- Leveraging advanced analytics and data visualization techniques to support business decision-making.
- Collaborating with auditors, consulting actuaries, and other internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensuring compliance with actuarial standards of practice and company reserving policies.

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, or a related field required.
- Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS) or equivalent actuarial credential required.
- Five or more years of property and casualty actuarial experience with a strong focus on reserving, claims analytics, or loss forecasting.
- Strong understanding of case reserve practices and claims development methodologies.
- Experience analyzing loss triangles, reserve development patterns, and claims performance metrics.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, SQL, and actuarial modeling tools.
- Experience working directly with Claims organizations preferred.
- Knowledge of predictive modeling, advanced analytics, and machine learning techniques.
- Experience with programming languages such as Python or R preferred.
