Job Summary:
The Standard seeks a talented and curious actuary to join our Capital Analytics & ALM team in the Corporate Actuarial and Risk Management Division. You will be working primarily on economic risk and capital metrics associated with our parent company and developing a framework to interpret the results for business management. You’ll support the regular production of these measures with our modeling teams and the education of key stakeholders on the interpretation of the results. This is a highly visible and varied role and will give you exposure to all our business units as well as leadership across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Extract, analyze and prepare data for use in actuarial analysis. Analyze, interpret, and present numerical data related to fair values, risk measurements, and other actuarial analyses to internal stakeholders across the organization.
- Communicate and collaborate with various departments across the organization to meet business needs, including process improvement initiatives, coordination of capital methodology with emerging industry & enterprise standards, and providing theory behind capital calculations.
- Prepare ongoing calculations, reporting and explanation of risk capital for individual business units as well as whole company level.
- Gather, analyze and develop strong understanding of profitability, growth, ALM requirements, risk, customer retention, and expense trends, utilizing company, industry and capital market data as necessary. Create and maintain models used in the analysis of risk management, income projection and regulatory requirements. Communicate findings to management and provide quantitative knowledge for business/investment/financial strategies. Support the development of a risk-based return framework using data and analysis to provide strategic guidance in influencing management decision making.
- Acts as a subject matter expert and interacts frequently with senior department managers or other senior actuarial personnel. Ability to communicate with non-technical audiences, providing consultation and clarification on actuarial models and risk issues. Ability to influence management towards courses of action which may have potentially sizeable impacts on products, markets, underwriting, pricing, risk management, and profitability.
- Prepare for and pass actuarial exams and maintain continuing education requirements.
Skills and Background You’ll Need:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience) in mathematics, actuarial science, business or a related field preferred.
- ASA designation, or equivalent, required
Experience:
- Demonstrated experience in an actuarial capacity
- Advanced analytical skills combined with creative actuarial knowledge to maximize profit and growth through data analysis, forecasting, and solid understanding of the business area of specialization. (i.e. insurance markets, competitive climate, regulatory market). Prior experience conducting complex analysis and providing recommendations on impactful strategies for risk management.
- Ability to determine appropriate methods and procedures for projects with limited guidance while anticipating stakeholder needs and takes initiative to address business challenges. Prior experience directing multiple complex cross-functional projects simultaneously, while also managing aspects of large and complex initiatives.
- Prior experience with retirement products & individual annuity products preferred; capital experience is a plus.
- Excel, Power BI, GGY Axis, Python, Dataiku or other modeling software highly preferred

Eligibility to participate in an incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program and plan. Any award depends on a variety of factors including individual and organizational performance.
The actual compensation for this role will be based on a combination of education and experience, knowledge and skills, position budget, internal equity, and market data.
Salary Range:
$74,500.00 - $108,750.00Positions will be posted for at least 5 days from original posting date.
