Job DescriptionResponsibilities:
- Collaborate with Bose team members and partners to oversee the development activities to build, test, and validate audio products such as active noise cancelling headphones, open ear audio, and out loud audio systems
- Provide technical expertise to support manufacturing related activities including acoustic test, assembly process improvements, and production quality improvements to meet product performance requirements
- Perform and oversee acoustic measurements of components, subsystems, and full assemblies and perform thorough analysis of results
- Perform and oversee troubleshooting of acoustic failures and recommend design and process changes to prevent future occurrences. Drive thorough reporting of results and recommendations to design team.
- Use simulation tools to predict acoustic system behavior to correlate with manufacturing results
- Collaborate with supplier engineering resources to support Bose development work, ensure supplier’s work follows Bose engineering philosophy, meets Bose requirements, and supports Bose priorities through effective communication and mentoring
- Prepare detailed engineering reports that communicate results, challenges, and solutions clearly and effectively to Bose colleagues and JDM partners
- Contribute to building and maintenance of acoustic test infrastructure capabilities at Bose Shenzhen office
- Work with external partners to evaluate and improve their acoustic test and analysis capabilities
- Frequent travel to support Bose product builds and supplier issues, primarily in the southeast China region, but occasionally to other worldwide locations
Qualifications:
- B.S. in Acoustical/Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline (M.S. preferred)
- 4+ years of direct acoustic experience developing high performance portable audio products
- 3+ years of hands-on acoustic test experience
- Strong understanding of acoustic test and measurement systems and techniques
- Familiar with acoustic test equipment from B&K, GRAS, Audio Precision, National Instruments, SoundCheck, and others
- Knowledge of headphone acoustic structures and enclosure/porting design or out loud speaker acoustic architectures
- Experience with active noise cancellation technology, Bluetooth product development, or other audio products with embedded firmware or signal processing is desirable
- Familiar with acoustic array design for communications mic systems using beamforming
- Basic understanding of transducer design, lumped parameter models, micro drivers, ECM, and MEMS microphones
- Familiar with acoustic modeling using PSpice or other tools
- Knowledge of psychoacoustics and speech quality evaluation
- Competent using Matlab for data analysis and visualization
- Exceptional technical problem solver, with ability to scope out, plan, and lead others to investigate and solve challenging problems
- Ability to work collaboratively with other disciplines such as Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, DSP, Industrial Design, and JDM Partners
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Mandarin and English
- Ability to adapt to rapidly changing constraints and requirements, while maintaining the highest performance standards
- Critical Listening skills with a passion for music and audio quality
