Summary Generated by Built In
Cornell University’s College of Arts and Sciences is a vibrant intellectual community of approximately 4,600 undergraduates, 1,400 graduate students, 640 faculty members and 280 staff members that embodies Ezra Cornell’s founding principle, “where any person can find instruction in any study.” As the university’s largest and most diverse academic unit, the College offers a rigorous liberal arts and sciences education across 28 departments and more than 25 programs, institutes and centers. Faculty teach more than half of all courses taught at Cornell while also engaging in curiosity-driven research, scholarship and creative works. They challenge students and colleagues to think critically and analytically, communicate effectively, and approach complex problems creatively and collaboratively.

Rooted in Cornell’s founding mission to do “the greatest good,” the College of Arts and Sciences is renewing that commitment by building a college focused on the public good—one that shares knowledge widely, addresses pressing societal challenges, and prepares graduates to be free and thoughtful citizens. The REACH strategic framework focuses on five interconnected priorities: 1) Research Excellence, 2) Educational Excellence, 3) Accessibility, 4) Contributions to American Society, and 5) Human Flourishing.
Department Statement:
The Department of Government offers students a variety of opportunities to engage with politics and political science, beginning in the classroom, with the chance to work one-on-one with faculty; by participating in internships, and by drawing on the department's ties with programs across the College of Arts and Sciences. The department attracts students from all over the University and is one of the College’s top three majors, graduating approximately 130 seniors annually. Over 2,500 students enroll in Government courses. Government boasts many prize-winning teachers who strive to instill critical thinking in their students, give them tangible skills in analytical writing, and teach them to assess evidence effectively. Government has 35 faculty, two academic visitors, five non-academic staff, 250 undergraduate students, and 80 graduate students.

The Accounts Coordinator works independently under the supervision of the Government Department Manager to provide a full range of administrative support for department accounting, purchasing, and human resources needs. requisitions, etc.; serving as the department’s Workday Time Approval Payroll Rep; using Workday and following University guidelines to appoint student and temp workers hired by faculty and the department.
