South Africa is part of the META (Middle East, Turkey and Africa) Cluster and Finance is a critical function within the cluster's commercial operations. Reporting to the South Africa Finance Controller, will be the Senior Specialist for Accounting, Tax and Controlling (AT&C) with main responsibility for 
the South Africa entities/operations. In this role, he/she will have end-to-end responsibility for the US 
GAAP and local GAAP results of the respective legal entity (if applicable). This includes all accounting, tax, treasury and internal control related matters performed locally or through partner teams (e.g. GDO). In line with the structure, this role might also need collaboration with the Commercial Organization and various stakeholders, internal and external. The finance team has an agile structure with all members of the team reporting directly to the Finance Controller. This enables flexible team settings depending on tasks, eases resource allocation, and creates development opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for accurate and compliant results in the South Africa legal entities for US GAAP, local Accounting & Tax standards

  • Manage AtR, StS, OtC, Tax teams in GDO to ensure objectives achievement, continuity of processes and succession planning

  • Compliance to all global & local statutory accounting policies

  • Establish & manage methodology & GL accounts structure for US GAAP, statutory & tax accounting

  • Establish & manage transfer pricing set-up & documentation

  • Establish & manage actual cost accounting

  • Monitoring of legislation changes and ensure timely implementation of required changes in SAP and accounting processes

  • Preparing and closing of books on a monthly basis

  • Manage the annual external audit and drafting of AFS

  • Timely submission of statutory & tax reporting in local tax authorities in accordance with legislation

  • Leading and Tax function by Identifying and analyzing tax risks for local legal entity; Tax planning; Tax support & consulting for business, local finance and global tax function initiatives; Tax analysis in order to comply with international tax requirements; Locally specified tax accounting & tax filing for CIT & VAT; Managing all types of Tax audits; Timely submission of supporting documentation for any remote or onsite tax audits; Contact point for local tax authorities and internal audit teams

  • Ensure appropriate archiving of all hard copy documents incl reporting forms to ensure compliance with local legislation

  • Making decisions on statutory and tax related processes, policies and procedures

  • Managing all types of issues in statutory and tax areas as well as GAAP reporting

  • Support cross tax audits of vendors or customers

  • Perform & Control Balances Sheet Reconciliation

  • Applying SOX and non-SOX controls to local processes and generating oversight of overall control environment linked to the local legal entity

  • Ongoing process optimization and support of new system implementations

  • Fixed Assets Accounting (GAAP, Statutory & Tax), Direct / Indirect Asset Capitalization, Value & Track of Fixed Assets, Perform Asset Disposals, Obligatory physical inventory counting & tagging.

Required Education, Experience and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or other related areas

• Strong Tax & Audit exprience

• Minimum of seven years of experience in Finance/Accounting with supervisor role

• Strong knowledge in IFRS is an asset

• Good level of MS Office applications usage and experience of SAP (key user)

• Understanding of business issues, including foreign currency impacts, deferred tax

• Strong oral & written communication skills (English)

• Open-minded, pro-active, result-driven and self-organized

• Ability to take ownership

• Strong analytical skills

• Strong communication, organization and managerial skills
