As our Accounting Manager, you will be at the heart of Backbase’s global financial operations—owning and driving the Accounting function with clarity, discipline, and impact. This role demands a meticulous and proactive professional who embodies our "Raise the Bar" mindset—constantly striving to optimize, innovate, and enhance the quality and efficiency of our financial reporting. You will collaborate as one with cross-functional teams across FP&A, Legal, HR, Tax, Treasury, and Operations, ensuring seamless alignment and robust financial operations. You will,
● Lead global accounting operations for all Backbase entities, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting;
● Lead the standardization and harmonization of global accounting policies and documentation to ensure consistency and best practices across the group;
● Own the preparation and analysis of financial statements, account reconciliations, and variance reports to ensure completeness and accuracy of results;
● Act as the primary escalation point for complex accounting issues, exercising sound judgment and applying deep technical knowledge to deliver timely resolutions;
● Manage and coordinate the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring all deliverables are met in line with Dutch GAAP and internal reporting standards;
● Support and lead external and internal audits, ensuring smooth audit execution, timely submissions, and clean audit outcomes;
● Mentor and develop junior accounting team members, fostering a high-performance culture and strengthening the team’s technical capabilities;
● Collaborate cross-functionally with Tax, Treasury, FP&A, HR, Legal, Operations and other key stakeholders to ensure alignment and integrity across financial operations and reporting;
● Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and operational procedures to ensure compliance and risk mitigation across jurisdictions;
● Drive automation and process optimization initiatives to enhance the speed, accuracy, and scalability of accounting operations, leveraging NetSuite and other technology tools;
● Ensure timely and accurate compliance with global statutory requirements, including CIT, VAT, WHT, and other tax/regulatory filings across relevant regions;
● Contribute to strategic projects such as M&A integration, Automations, and legal entity restructurings by providing accounting leadership and execution.

● Professional Accreditation: Registered Accountant, Chartered Accountant (e.g., RA, CA, CPA), or an equivalent qualification;
● Extensive Experience: 10+ years in an accounting leadership role with a proven track record in managing complex, multi-entity accounting operations and driving improvements through automation and AI-driven solutions;
● Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of accounting principles and standards (Dutch GAAP, IFRS), with hands-on experience in financial reporting and ERP systems—especially NetSuite (mandatory);
● Leadership & Team Development: Proven experience in mentoring, developing, and leading high-performing accounting teams in a collaborative and fast-paced environment;
● Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, essential for effective collaboration across global teams;
● Cross-Functional Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively partner with Finance, Tax, Treasury, Legal, and Operations teams to drive company-wide initiatives.
