How You’ll Make a Difference  

The Mgr, Accounting is responsible for managing the accounting staff, systems, and operations including general accounting, accounts payable, and accounts receivable/billing. This position sets the direction (in collaboration with the Controller) for the department by enforcing and establishing policies and procedures that are efficient and have strong internal controls. The Accounting Manager assures that accounting operations are consistent with corporate policy, regulatory requirements, and specific goals. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

Accounting, Financial Management, and Reporting  

  •  Manage month-end and year-end closing process and coordinate the interim, year-end, and other financial audits 
  • Serve as subject matter expert and interact with organizational leadership concerning financial information, statistics, budget variances, organizational initiatives, and finance department policies and procedures 

  • Manage, in collaboration with the Controller, the preparation of tax filings 

  • Manage financial statements, as well as special reporting requests, analysis, and reconciliations 

  • Keep current with regulatory requirements and ensure compliance with applicable contract and regulatory reporting requirements 

  • Create and maintain strong systems of internal controls. 

Manage Staff  

  • Hire, train, engage and retain department staff. 

  • Assign, direct and verify the work of direct reports. 

  • Assess staff performance and provide feedback, coaching, correction, and development opportunities 

Financial Information Systems Support  

  • Maintain chart of accounts and assign codes in accordance with internal and external reporting requirements, and maintain the ledger and accounting system 

  • Serve as reporting expert for financial and management information reporting 

  • Serve as administrator on paperless AP system, managing access rights and training new users 

  • Engage in continuous improvement and education regarding all Financial Information Systems 

Budget  

  • Work with cost managers on their cost centers, facilitate data inputs, assure quality, and provide technical assistance 

  • Counsel department managers on budget strategy and meaningful presentation of complex financial information, and serve in a leadership role in the development and finalizing of the Foundation Budget 

  • Assist in the development of the capital budget 

Other Duties 

  • Participate in internal work groups, meetings, and committees relative to position responsibilities. 

  • Ensure compliance with Agrace policies and protocols, state, federal, and other regulations. 

  • Develop and adhere to annual department operating budget. 

 

You Bring (Qualifications) 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA designation or eligibility is preferred 

  • Five years’ experience of general accounting (financial reporting and analysis, preparation of general ledger entries, reconciling general ledger accounts) 

  • Prior accounting management experience 

  • Advanced level experience in Microsoft Office Suite and other financial industry software

  • Ability to demonstrate exceptional theoretical and practical knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and auditing standards and best practices 

  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with others 

  • Experience using industry specific software 

  • Experience working in a healthcare environment 

  • Ability to communicate financial/business/technical/clinical information to all levels of the organization 

  • Experience developing policy and procedure 

  • Experience in project management, strategic planning and execution, budgeting, and controlling costs 

  • Ability to engage staff in Agrace’s strategic and annual operating plans and LEAN projects and to ensure strategies and improvements remain in practice 

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality about patients, families, caregivers, staff, donors, and organizational intellectual property. 

  • Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and access to a reliable vehicle 

  • Ability to use proper body mechanics and standard precautions 

  • Ability to be flexible in time and task to meet organizational needs

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
