The Reinsurance Accounting Manager will lead the reinsurance accounting team in overseeing and ensuring the accurate accounting treatment of intercompany and third-party reinsurance activities for both AgriSompo North America and American Agri-Business Insurance Company. This role is critical in managing the preparation and review of quarterly and annual financial statements and disclosures in compliance with IFRS and Statutory accounting principles. The Reinsurance Accounting Manager will also be responsible for the strategic planning and execution of reinsurance accounting policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and enhancing internal controls.

Leadership and Management:
- Lead and mentor the reinsurance accounting team, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Develop and implement strategic goals and objectives for the reinsurance accounting function.
- Manage Ceded contract placements and perform set-up of the ceded contract information in the sub-ledger system.
- Collaborate with senior management to align reinsurance accounting activities with overall company objectives.
Accounting and Financial Reporting:
- Oversee the review of supporting schedules and detail records to ensure correct accounting treatment of intercompany and third-party reinsurance activities.
- Assist in preparation of financial statements and subsidiary ledgers and ensure timely financial close.
- Ensure the preparation and accuracy of quarterly and annual financial schedules, statements, and related disclosures for American Agri-Business Insurance Company on a statutory basis.
- Manage the preparation of required state insurance department filings and internal management reports.
- Review and approve reconciliations and other work performed by accounting staff.
Compliance and Internal Controls:
- Ensure compliance with IFRS and Statutory accounting principles and regulatory requirements.
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust internal controls and accounting policies related to reinsurance activities.
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors to facilitate audits and address any findings or recommendations.
Strategic Planning and Analysis:
- Provide strategic insights and analysis on reinsurance accounting matters to senior management.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging accounting standards related to reinsurance.
Stakeholder Communication:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for reinsurance accounting matters with internal and external stakeholders.
- Work closely with Sompo Reinsurance team to facilitate timely reporting of information needed to support the close and to compile quarterly and annual internal and external reporting.
- Prepare and present reports and analyses to senior management, board members, and regulatory authorities as needed.
Foster strong relationships with other departments, including underwriting, claims, and actuarial, to support cross-functional initiatives
Position Requirements
Education
Accounting or Finance Bachelor’s degree required; or equivalent relevant work experience in reinsurance industry
Experience
CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
Prefer minimum of 5 years of experience in (re)insurance accounting or a related field, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of Statutory accounting principles and regulations.
Prefer familiarity with NAIC quarterly and annual statement content and preparation
Proven experience in managing and developing high-performing teams.
Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with senior management and other stakeholders.
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with SAP or similar ERP systems is a plus.
