Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant to oversee the financial operations of a diversified media business comprising a radio station, online platform, and production company—all operating under one integrated structure. The ideal candidate will bring a solid background in accounting and financial management, with a minimum of 3 years' experience in Tanzania, preferably within the media industry. This role is critical in ensuring regulatory compliance, particularly with Tanzanian tax laws, while delivering accurate financial reporting and driving sound financial practices to support the company’s continued growth and innovation.


Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update the general ledger, balance sheet, and other financial statements for the businesses.
  • Ensure timely preparation and filing of statutory financial reports in compliance with Tanzanian laws and regulations.
  • Manage cash flow, ensuring that funds are available for day-to-day operations.
  • Process accounts payable and receivable, and reconcile accounts to ensure accuracy.
  • Assist in the preparation of the company’s annual budget.
  • Monitor and analyze monthly budget variances and make recommendations for financial improvements.
  • Assist with long-term financial planning and forecasting.
  • Ensure compliance with Tanzanian tax laws, including VAT, income tax, withholding tax, and other relevant taxes.
  • Prepare and file tax returns promptly.
  • Manage tax audits and communicate with tax authorities as necessary.
  • Oversee the preparation of payroll, ensuring that salaries, bonuses, and deductions are accurately processed and in compliance with Tanzanian labor laws.
  • Ensure timely submission of PAYE and other statutory deductions to the relevant authorities.
  • Prepare financial reports for management and stakeholders, providing analysis and insights to support decision-making.
  • Monitor financial performance and provide recommendations to optimize cost efficiency and profitability.
  • Liaise with auditors and provide necessary documentation for annual audits.
  • Ensure the company adheres to established internal financial controls and processes.
  • Monitor financial transactions and identify any potential risks or irregularities.
  • Ensure compliance with Tanzanian financial laws, media-related regulations, and other relevant industry standards.
  • Provide financial guidance and advice to management and departments.
  • Manage relationships with external stakeholders, including banks, vendors, and clients.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Finance Manager or Managing Director.


Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or equivalent certification is a plus.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting, with a focus on data accuracy, coding, reconciliations, and project monitoring.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP) and financial reporting.
  • Experience with project-based financial tracking, budgeting, and reporting is highly preferred.
  • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in financial data entry.
  • Strong project management and financial tracking skills.


Skills Required
