Driving operational excellence in an international business consultancy firm, this position spans key accounting activities from client invoicing and debt collection through to balance sheet reconciliations, statutory VAT submissions, and payroll administration. The positionrequires strong independent ownership to maintain complete, clean month-end files, ensure strict statutory compliance, and deliver timely management accounts.
The role operates within a hybrid work environment, requiring two days per week on site at the office, subject to business discretion.
Key Responsibilities
Client Invoicing and Billing: Prepare and issue accurate client invoices in line with contracts, purchase orders, and agreed billing cycles; maintain the billing schedule, process credit notes or pricing adjustments with required approvals, and keep customer master data current.
Accounts Receivable and Collections: Manage the debtors ledger, allocate receipts daily, drive proactive collections, resolve queries, and report weekly on debtors' aging, cash collection risk, and recommended provisions.
Accounts Payable Capturing: Capture supplier invoices accurately to correct general ledger accounts, cost centers, and VAT codes, while matching invoices to purchase orders and maintaining master files.
Accounts Payable Payments and Reconciliations: Prepare payment runs, reconcile supplier statements to the creditors ledger, manage account queries, and perform monthly creditors' age analysis reconciliations.
Bank and Cashbook Reconciliations: Process cashbook transactions, reconcile all bank accounts (including foreign currency accounts), clear un-reconciled items monthly, and administer petty cash and company card reconciliations.
Fixed Asset Register Maintenance: Maintain the fixed asset register regarding additions, transfers, disposals, and depreciation; reconcile the register to the general ledger monthly, and coordinate periodic physical verification.
VAT and Statutory Submissions: Prepare, reconcile, and submit VAT returns within statutory deadlines, reconcile input and output VAT to the general ledger, maintain valid tax invoices, and support provisional and annual income tax processes.
Balance Sheet Reconciliations and Month-End: Reconcile all balance sheet accounts monthly with supporting schedules, post month-end journals, assemble the management accounts pack, and prepare the annual audit file for external auditors.
Intercompany Invoicing and Reconciliations: Raise inter company recharges and management fees, reconcile inter company loan and current accounts monthly, resolve differences promptly, and prepare consolidation schedules.
Payroll Processing: Process the monthly payroll accurately and on time, maintain employee payroll records and benefit deductions, reconcile payroll to the general ledger, and resolve payroll queries confidentially.
Essential Requirements
BCom in accounting, finance, or a related field (or an equivalent qualification).
Three to five years of full-function accounting experience.
Proven ownership of VAT submissions, balance sheet reconciliations, and full payroll processing on a recognised payroll system.
Working knowledge of IFRS for SMEs, the VAT Act, and the Income Tax Act.
Strong Microsoft Excel skills (including lookups, pivot tables, and reconciliation techniques).
Desirable Requirements
Multi-entity or group experience, including inter company reconciliations and consolidation exposure.
Exposure to foreign currency transactions and exchange rate accounting.
Experience preparing full external audit files.
Experience implementing or migrating accounting or payroll systems.
Required Software Skills
Advanced Microsoft Excel.
Practical experience using a recognised payroll system and accounting software.
