The Accountant 3 - Central maintains financial records and ensures that financial transactions are properly recorded. This position safeguards the accuracy of entries to ledger accounts and reconciles subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC JOB FUNCTIONS                                                       

1. Prepares complex balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports.

2. Analyzes current costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses.

3. Oversees, mentors, and assists lower-level accountants.

4. Avoids legal challenges by complying with legal requirements.

5. Protects the organization's value by keeping information confidential.

6. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.

7. Prepares and records asset, liability, revenue, and expense entries by compiling and analyzing account information.

8. Creates financial reports for taxes, regulatory agencies, and stockholders.

9. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required

Certification and Licensing:

Not required.

Experience:

 Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required

    • Certified Public Accountant CPA certification
    • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting procedures and principles
    • Knowledge of budget control methods, policies, and procedures
    • Ability to prepare financial and accounting records
    • Ability to analyze, consolidate, and interpret accounting data
    • Ability to communicate accounting data and results concisely
    • Strong written and oral communication skills
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word
    • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP
    • Strong experience preparing and analyzing financial data
    • Strong planning and organizational skills
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities
