Job Description

The Staff Collaborative Pianist provides musical support for the Vocal Arts Department at Boston Conservatory at Berklee through regular accompaniment of applied voice lessons and departmental activities in classical voice and/or musical theatre. Working closely with faculty and students, the pianist serves as an artistic partner in the learning process and contributes to the preparation and presentation of lessons, studio classes, recitals, juries, and other Vocal Arts events. Assignments are determined in consultation with studio faculty and the department chair and follow a regular weekly schedule.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide piano accompaniment for assigned voice lessons on a regular weekly schedule.
  • Collaborate with faculty and students in the preparation of assigned repertoire.
  • Accompany studio classes, studio recitals, juries, auditions, and other departmental activities as assigned.
  • Maintain availability for end-of-semester jury examinations and other required assessment activities.
  • Serve as a responsive and supportive musical partner, contributing to a positive and productive learning environment.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, punctuality, preparedness, and effective communication in all interactions with students and faculty.


Required Qualifications, Skills, and Knowledge:

  • Advanced piano performance skills and a high level of technical proficiency.
  • Strong sight-reading abilities and the capacity to learn and prepare repertoire efficiently.
  • Demonstrated interest in and commitment to collaborative music-making.
  • Familiarity with and enthusiasm for classical vocal and/or musical theatre repertoire.
  • Ability to work effectively with students and faculty in both instructional and performance settings.


Preferred Qualifications, Skills, and Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with standard lyric diction and vocal repertoire in languages such as French, German, Italian, and Spanish.
  • Previous experience as a collaborative pianist in a conservatory, collegiate, professional, or pre-professional setting.
  • Ability to respond artistically and flexibly to the needs of individual students during lessons, rehearsals, and performances.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to supporting student artistic development.
