Job Summary

Responsible for the design, development, and implementation of a comprehensive Academic Success program for a designated Club, with an emphasis on K-5 academics.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Youth Development & Mentorship

  • Lead efforts to promote and encourage youth participation across all programs.
  • Ensure staff consistently apply Positive Youth Development (PYD) techniques.
  • Model professional behavior and provide guidance to youth and staff.
  • Actively engage with youth during programming to foster trust and connection.
  • Serve as a primary adult mentor, cultivating meaningful relationships with Club youth.
  • Support staff in building mentoring relationships and maintaining a safe, inclusive space.

Program Design and Oversight

  • Oversee the development of age-appropriate educational curriculum that includes academic support, tutoring, and youth voice.
  • Ensure all programs align with BGCA standards and exceed grant expectations.
  • Monitor curriculum implementation and provide coaching to staff as needed.

Academic Support Leadership

  • Supervise academic support initiatives, including homework help and K–3 literacy programming.
  • Guide staff in helping youth set and achieve academic goals.
  • Collaborate with the Life & Workforce Readiness Coordinator to plan academic field trips, business tours, and college visits.

Compliance and Confidentiality

  • Ensure FERPA compliance and safeguard all academic records.
  • Oversee accurate tracking of program participation and outcomes using the Club’s database.
  • Lead evaluation efforts using youth surveys and qualitative feedback; prepare and submit grant reports.

Safety and Operational Excellence

  • Conduct and document daily safety inspections of program areas.
  • Ensure full compliance with grant requirements through participation in training and reporting.
  • Lead and participate in all required Club training and staff meetings.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Foster a productive and collaborative work environment for staff and volunteers.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and support to ensure high-quality program delivery.
  • Lead or support special programs and events that enhance youth engagement and community visibility.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by senior leadership.

 

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience and/or training.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate with children in a Boys & Girls Club environment.
  • Ability to engage with the general public and community organizations.
  • Ability to organize, supervise, and inspire members in a safe environment.
  • Must meet all requirements set forth by BGC’s insurer for the operation of any motor vehicle in course and scope of the position’s duties.
  • Ability to pass Department of Human Services background check.

 

Fundamental Relationships

Maintains close daily contact with Club staff, Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information. Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, parents/guardians, and others to provide a positive Club experience.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

Physical Demands

  • Regularly: walking, bending, reaching, stretching, hearing, seeing, repetitive hand motions, carrying up to 25 lbs.
  • Occasionally: lifting up to 50 lbs., and stationary work.

Equipment Use

  • Regularly: personal computer, phones, two-way radios, copy/scan machines, motor vehicle, hand tools.
  • Occasionally: kitchen equipment, hand tools, Audio Visual equipment.

Work Environment

  • Regularly: indoor and outdoor work in varied weather conditions, team and independent work, noisy conditions.
  • Occasionally: odors, and varied lighting.

Mental Demands

  • Regularly: managing workplace stressors, handling belligerent behaviors.

Substance Exposure & Protective Equipment

  • Occasionally: exposure to chemicals or body fluids.
  • Occasionally: use of protective gear (gloves, masks, etc.).
