Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Global Undergraduate Academic Advising, the Academic Advisor delivers student-focused academic advising to undergraduate students enrolled in pathway programs offered across Northeastern network campuses. The Academic Advisor helps students identify their interests, abilities, and academic goals while providing general program advising across a portfolio of undergraduate degree programs. This position works in partnership with advising units from each program’s home college on the Boston campus to support student success and retention. Responsibilities include identifying and supporting at-risk students, assisting with registration and academic planning processes, maintaining student records, participating in recruitment and orientation activities, developing collaborative campus partnerships, and teaching multiple sections of the Introduction to College course.


Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Academic Advising and Retention (60%)

  • Partner with academic advising units on the Boston campus and other global campuses to provide general academic advising and support for undergraduate pathway program students.
  • Advise students in alignment with best practices in student support and success.
  • Utilize the early alert system to identify, track, and conduct outreach to at-risk students.
  • Maintain documentation of student interactions and accurate student records.
  • Monitor student academic progress and provide appropriate guidance and referrals.
  • Assist students with schedule planning, course registration, add/drop processes, withdrawals, and major declaration.
  • Identify struggling students and make referrals to appropriate university resources and support services.
  • Participate in advising-related committees and initiatives that support student success.

Teaching (25%)

  • Teach sections of the Introduction to College course.
  • Collaborate with undergraduate academic advising units on the Boston campus to develop new course modules and teaching approaches as appropriate.
  • Monitor student attendance and grades for assigned course sections.
  • Submit progress reports as needed.

Special Projects (15%)

  • Serve as a liaison and collaborate with designated campus departments and offices, including the Registrar, the Office of Global Services, and WeCare.
  • Participate in advising-related committees and collaborative initiatives.
  • Support Admissions activities, events, and student recruitment efforts as needed.
  • Develop and coordinate relationships with various campus offices to enhance services and support for students.

Minimum Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 2 to 3 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of educational requirements and academic advising processes.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with a variety of software applications.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Experience working collaboratively as part of a team.

Preferred

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field.
