This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

As part of a hardworking team of specialists, technicians, and engineers perform as an AC power systems engineer for ground systems. You will design, develop, and test AC power systems for ground-based infrastructure like launch ranges, substations, or test facilities.

The selected candidate applies broad multi-disciplinary engineering (mechanical and electrical/electronic) knowledge, skills, and methods as well as computer/software systems to design and engineer the overall systems infrastructure including engineering, implementation and integration, and technical services and support. Designs, implements, installs, maintains, and administers infrastructures including hardware, software, and various configurations. Monitors overall performance to proactively identify potential issues and tune them appropriately. Performs root cause analysis on failed components and implements corrective measures. Works with others to establish and improve processes and procedures.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Performing system analysis and specifying components
  • Creating electrical schematics
  • Overseeing installation and commissioning, with a focus on compliance with standards and ensuring reliability in harsh environments. 
  • Risk management: Perform risk assessments, hazard analyses, and failure mode and effects analyses (FMEA).
  • Design and analysis: Create detailed electrical designs for power distribution, control systems, and lightning protection.
  • Troubleshooting and maintenance: Investigate and resolve power-related issues, support ongoing maintenance, and provide real-time support during critical operations.
  • Documentation: Develop and maintain technical documentation, including schematics, control diagrams, and operational manuals.
  • Compliance and quality: Ensure designs and installations comply with industry standards, codes (e.g., IEEE, NESC), and project-specific requirements.
  • Power systems studies: Conduct load flow analysis, short-circuit studies, and grounding studies to ensure system performance and safety

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering, with a power systems focus
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in power systems design, analysis, and project execution.
  • Software: Experience with power system simulation software like ETAP, PSS/E, or PSCAD.
  • Component and system selection: Specify, size, and select electrical components such as transformers, switchgear, and circuit breakers.
  • Installation and commissioning: Oversee the installation of electrical equipment and participate in the testing and commissioning phases to validate system functionality.
  • Experience with electrical distribution design, hazardous area classification, load balancing, single-line diagrams, design documentation, construction drawings, construction bid solicitation, contractor selection, construction management, field superintendence, permitting, QA/QC
  • Experience with commissioning, operating, and maintenance of power systems
  • Ability to design and understand precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings and modeling applications
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook), Intermediate
  • Candidate must be able to lift/carry up to fifty pounds. Must be able to physically climb multiple flights stairs, withstand prolonged standing, and work in adverse weather conditions
  • Candidate must be able to successfully apply for badging at a government installation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer
  • Experience in the aerospace (orbital launch vehicle) sector
  • Experience with AFSPCMAN 91-710
  • Experience working with DOD, US Air Force and/or US Space Force, NASA
  • Experience with NFPA 55, NFPA 70, NFPA 59A, NFPA 780
  • PMP or Project Management Experience
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills to prepare reports and present information to audiences.

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
