About the role.
We're looking for a highly capable and people-focused 3PL and Cold Store Manager to lead the operations of our Ballarat-based, EBA-covered cold storage facility. This role is essential in ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient operations while fostering a strong, values-driven team culture. You'll lead a dedicated workforce under an EBA, drive operational projects in collaboration with engineering, and support the performance of our national cold storage network.
This is a high-impact leadership opportunity that combines day-to-day warehouse management with hands-on involvement in infrastructure and improvement projects. We're seeking a leader with a passion for people, safety, and operational excellence.
What you'll be doing.
- Leading the day-to-day operations of the Ballarat Cold Store facility, with a strong focus on safety, compliance, and performance.
- Managing and engaging a team of supervisors and EBA-covered employees, building a high-performance, safety-first culture rooted in trust, accountability, and development.
- Ensuring full compliance with safety standards, HACCP, ISO, GMP, and Chain of Responsibility (CoR) regulations.
- Leading or contributing to cold storage infrastructure and operational improvement projects (e.g. hot gas defrost, LED upgrades), working closely with engineering and project teams.
- Supporting performance management of third-party logistics providers, ensuring alignment with service expectations and operational goals.
- Partnering with the inventory team to maintain stock accuracy, oversee audits and stocktakes, and uphold warehouse standards.
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives, focusing on process optimisation, equipment utilisation, and site governance.
- Supporting cost centre performance, budget adherence, and site spend controls.
- Championing training, development, and workforce planning aligned with EBA requirements.
- Collaborating cross-functionally with HR, planning, production, distribution, safety, and quality teams.
- Contributing to the broader strategy of our national cold store network, sharing insights and supporting supply chain projects across the business.
What you'll need to be successful.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in cold storage or warehouse operations within the FMCG or frozen food industry.
- Proven experience managing a cold storage warehouse with an EBA-covered workforce - essential.
- Strong people leadership skills with a track record of building team culture , improving performance, and developing staff.
- Solid knowledge of HACCP, GMP, ISO , and Chain of Responsibility (CoR) requirements.
- Demonstrated experience leading or supporting warehouse infrastructure or operational improvement projects (e.g. defrost systems, LED upgrades), working cross-functionally with engineering and other teams.
- Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing operational priorities.
- Effective communicator with excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
- High attention to detail and a disciplined, safety-first approach .
- Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and engage teams , particularly in an EBA environment.
- Experience working with SAP and WMS platforms .
- Experience with 3PL supplier performance and contract management (desirable but not essential).
