At Vast, our mission is to contribute to a future where billions of people are living and thriving in space. We are building artificial gravity space stations, allowing long-term stays in space without the adverse effects of zero-gravity. Our initial crewed space habitat will be Haven-1, scheduled to be the world’s first commercial space station when it launches into low-Earth orbit in 2026. It is part of our stepping stone approach to continuous human presence in LEO. Our team is all-in, committed to executing our mission safely and on time. If you want to work with the most talented people on Earth furthering space exploration for humanity, come join us.
Vast is seeking a highly skilled Senior 3D Technical Artist, reporting to the Manager of Industrial Design, to support the development of the systems that will be required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations..
This individual can bridge the gap between engineering and visualization to bring next-generation artificial-gravity space stations to life. In this role, you will translate engineering models into accurate 3D visualizations and develop compelling technical imagery that supports industrial design, engineering development, system integration, marketing, and strategic decision-making.
Working closely with engineers, industrial designers, and cross-functional partners, you will visualize complex systems, components, and environments throughout all phases of product development. Your work will play a critical role in communicating design intent, identifying engineering challenges, and illustrating the future of human habitation in space.
This will be a full-time, exempt position located in our Long Beach location.
Responsibilities:
Engineering Visualization & Technical Translation
■ Translate engineering CAD models into 3D rendering software for accurate and visually clear representations.
■ Create technical visualizations that support engineering development and system design reviews
■ Visualize components, subsystems, and full station environments across the entire product development lifecycle.
■ Communicate technical problems, constraints, and solutions through visual media for internal stakeholders, leadership, and partners.
Design & Concept Development■ Develop detailed 3D concepts for habitat interiors, station exteriors, research labs, docking interfaces, and other mission-critical environments.
■ Collaborate closely with aerospace engineers to ensure technical feasibility, accuracy, and alignment with operational requirements.
■ Iterate on designs based on engineering feedback, user experience considerations, and program objectives.
■ Contribute to the overall visual language and aesthetic identity of Vast’s space station platforms.
■ Produce high-quality renders and animations for internal reviews, investor materials, marketing, and crew sales use.
■ Maintain and expand a master 3D asset library that supports cross-team collaboration, vendor coordination, and future project continuity.
■ Create polished visuals that support pitches, proposals, customer engagements, and public-facing communication.
Research & Collaboration■ Work with industrial design, engineering, operations, and executive teams to ensure visuals accurately reflect mission architecture.
■ Support immersive visualization platforms including VR and AR as needed.
Work Environment■ Adapt to a fast-paced and evolving engineering environment while maintaining exceptional visual quality and attention to detail.
Minimum Qualifications:
■ 8+ years of experience as a 3D technical artist, concept artist or animator, preferably in aerospace, gaming, film, or industrial design.
■ Strong ability to interpret engineering models, diagrams, and technical requirements.
■ Proficiency in 3D modeling and rendering tools such as Blender, 3ds Max, Maya, Keyshot or similar platforms.
■ Strong skills in creating accurate technical visualizations and photorealistic renders.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
■ Background in industrial design, engineering visualization, or technical art for scientific applications
■ Knowledge of computer applications and the ability to easily navigate through different computer software programs
■ Experience with VR/AR tools for immersive visualization and design review.
■ Ability to make independent judgments with limited information
■ Communication skills for relaying data (verbally and in-writing) between other employees, vendors, and customers
Additional Requirements:
■ Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
■ Willingness to work overtime, or weekends to support critical mission milestones
■ Ability to lift up to 25lbs unassisted
Pay Range:
■ Senior 3D Technical Artist: $127,000 - $190,000

What We Do
Vast is developing next-generation space stations to ensure continuous human presence in space for America and its allies, enabling advanced microgravity research and manufacturing, and unlocking a new space economy for government, corporate, and private customers. Using an incremental, hardware-rich and low-cost approach, Vast is rapidly developing its multi-module Haven Station. Haven Demo’s 2025 success made Vast the only operational commercial space station company to fly and operate its own spacecraft. Next, Haven-1 is expected to become the world’s first commercial space station when it launches in 2026, followed by additional Haven modules to enable permanent human presence by 2030.
With more than 1,000 employees at its Long Beach, California headquarters and over a billion dollars in private capital invested, Vast has built the facilities required to manufacture and operate America’s next space station. The company plans to develop future habitats for the Moon and Mars, dedicated space stations for government partners, and other crewed systems that will unlock the expanding long-term space economy.
