Position Overview
The Investment Research Associate Program is a three-year rotational opportunity designed for highly motivated and intellectually curious individuals. Associates will rotate across multiple investment teams at GMO, gaining exposure to both quantitative and fundamental investment approaches across a range of asset classes, including equities, fixed income, alternatives, and asset allocation. 
 
The program is structured to develop future investors by providing hands-on experience and continuous training. Associates work closely with experienced researchers, portfolio managers, and traders, contributing meaningfully to investment research and decision-making. 
 
Each rotation typically lasts six to eight months, though timing and assignments may vary based on team needs, individual skills, and interests. Ongoing research and investment training, along with firmwide initiatives, support integration into GMO’s culture and investment philosophy. 
 
The goal is to place associates into full-time roles on investment teams upon completion of the program. In some cases, permanent placement may occur before the three-year period concludes. 
 
 
Responsibilities:
Examples of the work include:
•Develop and/or redefine investment models and frameworks for understanding the drivers of returns and associated risks across markets
•Complete complex analytical projects
•Interpret company announcements and their investment implications
•Investigating macroeconomic themes and trends 
•Communicating and presenting investment ideas to colleagues
 
Qualifications:
•Completed Bachelor’s or Master’s degree by June 2027
•Degree in a quantitative or analytical field such as Mathematics, Economics, Financial Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a related discipline 
•Demonstrated interest in investing through relevant coursework or internship experience  
•Strong verbal and written communication skills  
•Programming experience in at least one of Python or MATLAB; familiarity with SQL is a plus  
•Familiarity with generative AI tools (e.g., MS Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude) and prompt engineering
•Genuine passion for investing and a strong desire to analyze investment opportunities  
•Willingness to take initiative, embrace risk, and contribute a differentiated perspective  
•Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize information, identify key insights, and draw conclusions  
•Proactive and intellectually curious, with the ability to prioritize, multitask, and thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment  
•Fewer than two years of relevant experience in the investment industry
