Commercial Summer Internship Program
The Commercial Summer Internship Program is designed to give interns a look at Citizens Bank’s culture and exposure into one of the many commercial banking business lines through project-based assignments, learning curriculum, networking, volunteer opportunities and formal mentorship. Responsibilities will vary based on the group you’re assigned to and will leverage your unique skills and abilities. At the conclusion of the program, high-performing interns will receive early consideration for full-time opportunities within the line of business in which they completed their summer internship.
Opportunities Within Commercial Banking, there are five opportunities in Boston: Asset Based Lending, Commercial Risk Management, Mid Corp PM, SACOE and Treasury & Wholesale Payments.
Asset Based Lending: The Asset-Based Lending (ABL) team provides financing solutions secured by working capital assets such as accounts receivable, inventory, and equipment, helping businesses optimize liquidity and support growth. You will work alongside Portfolio Managers, Credit Analysts, and Relationship Managers to support underwriting, collateral analysis, portfolio monitoring, financial modeling, and credit approval processes. The role offers exposure to client interactions, industry research, risk assessment, and commercial lending transactions, providing a comprehensive understanding of asset-based finance and credit risk management.
- Commercial Risk Management: Commercial Banking Risk serves as a first line of defense, partnering with business leaders to identify, assess, and manage risks associated with commercial banking products, services, and activities. You will support control testing, process documentation, regulatory exam preparation, and report distribution, while contributing to strategic initiatives such as digitization efforts and ESG-related projects. This role provides valuable exposure to risk management practices, regulatory compliance, and business process improvement within Commercial Banking.
- Mid Corp PM: You will work alongside Portfolio Managers, Credit Analysts, and Relationship Managers to support loan underwriting, portfolio monitoring, and business development efforts for commercial banking clients. Responsibilities include conducting financial and credit analysis, preparing financial models and credit approval materials, monitoring client reporting and covenant compliance, performing industry and market research, and participating in client meetings, team discussions, and special projects to gain broad exposure to commercial banking and relationship management.
- SACOE: The Streamlined Accounts Center of Excellence (SACOE) team within Underwriting & Portfolio Management supports the underwriting, monitoring, and management of commercial banking relationships while driving efficiency, consistency, and innovation across portfolio management and credit processes. You will work alongside Portfolio Managers, Credit Analysts, and Relationship Managers to support credit underwriting, financial analysis, loan monitoring, industry and market research, and client presentations, while gaining exposure to deal teams, credit approval processes, client interactions, and broader commercial banking activities.
- Treasury & Wholesale Payments: You will support high-visibility projects and daily operations within Treasury Solutions while conducting research, analytics, and project management for strategic initiatives. You'll collaborate with leaders and teams across the business to gain a comprehensive understanding of Treasury Solutions and ultimately present your recommendations and insights to senior executives.

Current students enrolled in an undergraduate bachelor’s program, graduating between Winter 2027 – Spring 2028 OR current students enrolled in a graduate program, graduating between Winter 2027 – Spring 2028
Minimum GPA of 3.2; Preferred cumulative GPA of 3.5.

Relevant work experience, leadership experience or coursework in Finance, Accounting or Economics is preferred but all majors will be considered.
Strong analytical skills and software skills: MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) proficiency is required.
