What You'll Be Doing
- Perform quality control testing on raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Collect, prepare, and analyze samples in both laboratory and field environments, including physically obtaining and handling material samples.
- Document and communicate test results accurately to support operational and quality objectives.
- Monitor production quality trends and identify opportunities for continuous improvement related to product quality, processes, and operational efficiency.
- Partner closely with operations and shipping teams to coordinate sample collection and maintain product quality, consistency, and regulatory compliance.
What Are We Looking For
- Quality control or materials testing experience is preferred, particularly in aggregates, construction materials, mining, quarry, or a similar industrial setting.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and support continuous improvement.
- Ability to follow testing procedures, maintain records, prepare reports accurately, and communicate testing results effectively.
- Applicable IDOT certification is preferred but not required; Heidelberg Materials can provide applicable state certification training after hire.
- Commitment to safety, teamwork, continuous improvement, and delivering high-quality results.
Work Environment
- Role operates in a combination of laboratory, quarry/production, and outdoor environments and is not a traditional climate-controlled laboratory setting. Employees will be exposed to varying temperatures, noise, dust, moving equipment, and active industrial operations.
- Required PPE may include a hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and steel-toe boots.
- This is a hands-on role that requires working in both laboratory and outdoor industrial environments, including collecting samples and regularly handling/lifting approximately 40–50 pounds.
