Strozak once thought that the only way for teams to get quality work accomplished at a product and engineering company like Upwork was to work in the same location. But that thinking has since evolved. Even before the pandemic, Strozak said Upwork had team members working and collaborating in more than 800 cities worldwide. Since embracing a remote-first model, Upwork hasn’t missed a beat, Strozak said.
“Forget about the promotion, and focus on solving customer problems.” That’s a piece of advice Kasper once received from an Upwork mentor, and by focusing on solving challenges, she's also been promoted in her five-plus years at the company, going from a strategic solutions manager for the enterprise group to the director of product management for the acquisition and onboarding teams.
