Leads corporate finance activities including budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, management accounts, reporting, controls and governance. Provides financial insight and constructive challenge to senior leaders, manages finance business partnering, develops staff, supports audit and assurance, and deputises for the Head of Finance. The role also drives finance transformation, process improvement, automation and effective use of Oracle EPM and related financial systems.

Act as the General Ledger subject matter expert, resolving complex accounting queries, supporting reconciliations, and advising finance teams and clients. Perform root-cause analysis, improve processes, support system changes and major programmes, manage testing, and develop new procedures. Lead client-facing year-end activities and working groups, collaborate with stakeholders, and support strategic planning, audits, investigations, and ad hoc projects. Apply advanced Excel skills, people management, relationship management, and strong accounting expertise.

Provides administrative and operational support across internal communications, employee engagement, recruitment, training, documentation, secretariat services, and shared query management. Coordinates events and training, supports interviews, maintains accurate records, handles sensitive information, and contributes to continuous improvement and strategic operational projects. The role requires flexibility, strong organization, attention to detail, effective communication, and collaboration across ESRC, UKRI, and shared business services.
