The Director of Accounting oversees accounting operations, financial reporting, close processes, reconciliations, internal controls, and compliance across a real estate portfolio. Responsibilities include leading accounting staff, maintaining accounting systems, reviewing consolidated reports, managing billing and payments, supporting budgeting and variance analysis, and improving processes. The role requires strong GAAP knowledge, advanced Excel and financial modeling skills, leadership experience, and expertise in accounting controls and cash management.

Supervises Property Accountants and reviews monthly financial statement packets, bank reconciliations, deposit verifications, loan escrow and covenant reporting, insurance claims, dashboard audits, new store setups, and sales tax packages. The role supports accounting process improvements, resolves issues with Operations, maintains accurate reporting, and assists the Director of Accounting with related duties.

Lead business development and manage relationships with Independent Broker-Dealers and RIAs, grow assigned distribution channels for REIT and alternative investment products, negotiate agreements, generate demand and advocacy, collaborate cross-functionally, and represent the firm at industry conferences.

Perform monthly close for ~20 self-storage properties including journal entries, reconciliations, balance sheets and income statements. Analyze budget vs. actual variances, compile monthly property reporting packages, support acquisition integrations, maintain internal controls and treasury, and handle ad hoc accounting projects.

Lead accounting operations and financial reporting, supervise Accounting and Payroll Managers, ensure compliance with tax and SEC requirements, implement internal controls, manage budgets, cash flow, debt and provide strategic financial analysis to executive leadership.

Support monthly close and financial statement consolidation; prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and schedules; maintain general ledger; coordinate property accountants' reporting; assist with SEC filings, audits, acquisitions integration, and variance analysis; produce internal and external financial reporting.
