Manage end-to-end laboratory operations for a quantum energy storage startup. The role partners closely with founders and translates advanced theory into practical experimental direction. It is an onsite position in Torrance, California, focused on fundamental research in quantum thermodynamics and related physics.

Develop and maintain embedded firmware for quantum energy storage control and safety electronics. Implement real-time control loops, safety interlocks, data acquisition, sensor integration, actuation, and board bring-up. Collaborate with electrical engineers and scientists on hardware-software integration and experimental instrumentation. Troubleshoot and perform root-cause analysis of hardware-software issues in an onsite startup environment.

Designs and builds power electronics, charging and discharging circuits, battery management systems, sensing instrumentation, and thermal-management solutions for quantum energy storage hardware. The role involves hands-on prototyping, high-voltage and high-current circuit design, lab testing, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and collaboration with materials, cell, embedded, and physics teams.

Build and secure an on-premises AI platform on owned hardware, including local model serving, database-backed search and provenance, and sandboxed execution for AI-generated code. Implement default-deny networking, untrusted-code isolation, auditable infrastructure, data classification, and trust-boundary controls. This founding generalist role requires deep backend and systems engineering experience, bare-metal expertise, and the ability to establish secure foundations before scaling the team.

Design, build, and operate experimental apparatus to test quantum energy storage claims. Characterize materials and cells, identify measurement artifacts, produce reproducible data, and collaborate with computational and theory teams. Document methods and results rigorously while developing instrumentation and measurement systems in an onsite startup environment.

Develop atomic- and molecular-scale simulations of quantum energy-storage materials using DFT, molecular dynamics, and finite-element modeling. Validate simulations against experimental data, guide design decisions, and establish company-wide simulation tools and standards. Collaborate with physicists and chemists in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary startup environment.
