That’s what makes Katie Schuetzner Connor’s recent work on a mobile enhancement release to manage native notifications so rewarding. Despite the busy deployment schedule, Connor appreciates the work-life balance she has with her team. “We have tools to maintain that balance, and I have had transparency meetings with my team when it gets out of sorts,” she said.

Christopher Butwell has been with Northern Trust for nearly 25 years. What compels him to stay? The culture helps, but the continuous opportunities to work with new technology means he never has to look elsewhere for fresh possibilities. Rather than working in an ivory tower, the architecture group functions as an application delivery partner that helps turn solutions into repeatable blueprints. The team focuses on jumpstarting new technologies and driving the digital transformation roadmap. “Trailblazing alongside application teams is the best part of my job,” he said.
After two decades in the field, Antonio Dangerfield knows that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to diversity, equity and inclusion. And as a person of color, Dangerfield inherently understands the impact of his work. That’s why the DEI strategy at Northern Trust is embedded in every level of the organization and monitored by an internal dashboard that reports hiring, promotion and retention numbers while driving transparency and accountability for leaders to increase representation at all levels. His goal is to directly impact the culture and not just get “bodies in the door.”
