Unpaid legal internship supporting NYLAG’s LegalHealth generalist practice. Interns will assist with client intake, legal research and writing, drafting pleadings and motions, client advocacy, government benefits and housing matters, immigration status, estate planning, and client file maintenance while working with staff lawyers and paralegals.

Provide client-centered civil legal services to New York City residents affected by changes to SNAP, Medicaid, and other public benefits. Duties also include maintaining case management records, updating files and notes, coordinating case closures, and handling high-volume communications. Staff Attorney in NYLAG’s Special Litigation Unit will develop and litigate impact cases involving Medicaid, Medicare, public benefits, housing, disability rights, and healthcare access. Responsibilities include interviewing plaintiffs, drafting complaints and briefs, discovery, depositions, settlement negotiations, court appearances, individual advocacy, stakeholder collaboration, training, and mentoring. The role requires civil litigation experience, strong legal research and writing skills, commitment to public interest and racial justice, and admission to the New York Bar.

Supports immigration legal services for detained or at-risk New York residents. Screens clients, assesses eligibility, collects documents, prepares forms and evidence, interviews clients and witnesses, assists with legal research and drafting, manages case data, provides translation and interpretation, coordinates referrals, and maintains partner relationships under attorney supervision.

Represent LGBTQ+ immigrants in detained and non-detained removal defense, asylum claims, bond hearings, appeals, motions, and federal court matters. Prepare legal filings, conduct screenings, manage client cases and records, provide ancillary legal assistance, and support community outreach and systemic advocacy. Responsibilities include client intake, medical-record review, legal research, case assessment, and advocacy before local offices, administrative law judges, and on appeal. The attorney manages a significant caseload, handles cases independently, collaborates with unit staff, and serves an underrepresented population with sensitivity and professionalism.

The Grant Officer manages the full grant lifecycle, including prospect research, proposal and report writing, renewals, funder stewardship, grant calendars, records, and submission deadlines. The position requires New York bar admission, in-person hospital work two days weekly, hospital clearance, and strong communication, research, writing, empathy, and problem-solving skills.

Work with NYLAG's Bronx Tenants' Rights Unit on affirmative housing litigation and eviction defense. Duties include client interviewing and advocacy, legal research and writing, drafting motions and pleadings, outreach, and participation in calls, meetings, and court appearances under attorney supervision.

Legal intern supporting employment law matters involving discrimination, wage and hour issues, leave, and unemployment insurance. Responsibilities include client intake and interviewing, legal research and writing, drafting demand letters and pleadings, and assisting with ongoing litigation. Applicants must be current law students with strong research, writing, analytical, communication, and presentation skills, plus a commitment to public interest law. Spanish fluency is strongly preferred.

Provide civil legal services through hospital-based clinics as part of a Medical-Legal Partnership. Staff two weekly in-person hospital clinics, handle benefits, housing, employment, immigration, and advance-planning matters, train and consult with medical staff, and fulfill hospital clearance requirements.

Provide immigration legal services within a Medical-Legal Partnership at Bellevue, including asylum, family-based petitions, adjustment, naturalization, U/T Visas, VAWA, TPS, SIJS, removal defense, benefits access, staff training, clinics and patient know-your-rights workshops. In-person clinic presence up to three days per week and hospital clearance required.
