Unpaid legal internship supporting NYLAG’s LegalHealth generalist practice. Interns will assist with client intake, legal research and writing, drafting pleadings and motions, client advocacy, government benefits and housing matters, immigration status, estate planning, and client file maintenance while working with staff lawyers and paralegals.

Provide client-centered civil legal services to New York City residents affected by changes to SNAP, Medicaid, and other public benefits. Conduct intakes, offer advice and representation, deliver Know Your Rights presentations, conduct community outreach, collaborate with legal and community partners, identify impact litigation opportunities, maintain case records, and support pro bono attorneys and volunteers.

Supports grant compliance, personnel cost tracking, funding allocations, payroll administration, reconciliations, grant billing, reporting, audits, and funder requests. Maintains staffing, salary, payroll, timekeeping, and grant documentation; reviews employee costs and payroll data; reconciles information across HR, payroll, and financial systems; generates reports; and improves documentation and workflow processes. Collaborates with Finance, Human Resources, Development, and program teams in a nonprofit environment.
