Mixbook Mission, Purpose & Impact
Mixbook’s mission is to empower people to be creative and connect deeply with the ones they love - and we live that mission in both big and small ways. Earlier this year, when devastating fires struck Southern California, many families lost their homes and the photo books and memories they held most dear. Without hesitation, Mixbook stepped in to replace every lost item for affected customers at no cost.
That response wasn’t a marketing moment - it was a reflection of who we are. Our mission reminds us that what we create isn’t just a product; it’s a vessel for connection, memory, and love. Whether we’re helping a customer rebuild their photo library after tragedy or designing new ways for families to tell their stories, our purpose shows up every day in how we care for people.
Mixbook Employee Perspectives
Tell us about Mixbook’s mission. How does that mission influence the company culture, and did it impact your decision to join the team?
Mixbook’s mission is to empower people to be creative and connect deeply with the ones they love. As a creative person and photographer, that mission spoke directly to me. The idea of using creativity as a vehicle for connection felt deeply personal, especially as someone living far from family. That sense of meaning shows up in the culture, too. There’s real freedom to approach problems your own way and an openness to different working styles and personalities. I joined Mixbook as a referral, but I stayed because I felt seen, respected and safe to be myself, even as a “weirdo,” as I like to say. The mission isn’t just a tagline; it influences how we work, how we show up for each other and how we build meaningful, human-centered products.
From your perspective, how does your work connect to the overall company mission?
As a UI/UX designer, my work lives at the intersection of creativity and connection — exactly what our mission is about. One of my first projects at Mixbook was redesigning the blog, right after I joined. There was no rigid formula or pre-baked plan. I was trusted to use my judgment and creativity to shape something meaningful. That autonomy, paired with a shared understanding of our mission, made the work energizing. Even today, every project balances our brand values: We care deeply about the user, we prioritize aesthetics and function, and we create tools that help people capture their most important relationships. I see the impact of my work every time a user builds something beautiful and shares it with someone they love.
What advice would you give a jobseeker hoping to join Mixbook?
Be creative and not just in the artistic sense. Mixbook values people who think differently, challenge assumptions and bring bold ideas to the table. Whether you’re in design, engineering or operations, we make space for experimentation and originality. Technical skills can be learned, but creative thinking and curiosity are core to how we operate. If you’re someone who likes to collaborate, who’s not afraid to voice a new idea and who wants to feel heard, this is a place where you can thrive. We don’t just accept diverse personalities and styles; we work better because of them.
