Serve as an independent facilitator and mediator for a NOAA task force addressing pinniped-fishery interactions affecting Pacific Northwest salmon and steelhead. The role requires deep Klamath River salmonid expertise, regulatory knowledge, technical writing, and complex environmental impact analysis experience.

Leads marine mammal passive acoustics research for NOAA Fisheries, including project development, field deployment, acoustic data collection and analysis, sound-source detection and classification, data archiving, equipment maintenance, reporting, and presentations. Conducts advanced bioacoustics research using hydrophones, sonobuoys, gliders, and specialized software. Supports conservation and management of endangered cetaceans and participates in fieldwork, meetings, and scientific coordination.

Conduct quantitative fisheries research using spatial and temporal datasets, life-cycle and stock assessment models, simulations, and ecological analyses. Evaluate relationships among fish populations, habitats, stressors, predators, prey, and management actions. Develop reproducible open-source workflows, document methods, share scripts and data products, and communicate findings through reports, publications, presentations, and status updates. The role is primarily on-site in the Pacific Northwest with part-time telework, anticipated travel, and a Public Trust background investigation.

Designs and maintains high-throughput geospatial and scientific computing pipelines for flood mapping, terrain analysis, hydrologic modeling, and forecasting. Develops cloud-native data infrastructure and backend APIs using AWS, optimizes large-scale scientific workflows, and applies Docker, CI/CD, testing, and modern software engineering practices. Collaborates with hydrologists and scientists to deliver reliable, scalable systems.

Develop and enhance web-based GIS and meteorological tools for NOAA forecasters, using deterministic and ensemble weather data to support hazardous-weather prediction. Collaborate with meteorologists, researchers, and external partners; develop mapped-data applications and web services; transition successful tools into operations; create training materials; and contribute to scientific publications, presentations, and outreach.

Build TypeScript front-end applications that visualize and integrate spatial data. Develop interactive maps, reusable components, and data-rich interfaces; connect applications to REST/JSON APIs; and write tested, maintainable, documented code. Collaborate with science, engineering, platform, and applications teams. Preferred experience includes web mapping libraries, geospatial formats and services, Agile project coordination, and accessible interface design.

Supports NOAA/NMFS aquaculture-related consultations by analyzing scientific and technical information, assessing effects on protected species and aquatic habitats, and preparing ESA, MSA, NEPA, and related regulatory documentation. Reviews biological assessments and permit applications, provides technical assistance, coordinates with agencies and engineers, supports habitat restoration proposals, and maintains consultation records and schedules. The role is primarily office-based with occasional site visits and attendance at regional aquaculture meetings.

Evaluates hatchery and genetic management plans affecting ESA-listed salmon and steelhead. Drafts ESA effects determinations, NEPA environmental assessments and impact statements, technical analyses, and response-to-comments packages. Collaborates with NOAA, tribal, state, and co-manager stakeholders; presents findings and prepares progress reports. Work is primarily offsite with monthly one-day trips to NMFS offices in Seattle or Lacey, Washington.

Provides scientific and technical support for interagency consultations involving ESA, MSA, MMPA, FPA, and NEPA. Responsibilities include analyzing environmental impacts on listed species and habitats, drafting biological opinions and regulatory responses, preparing NEPA documents and permits, reviewing consultation materials, coordinating with agencies and stakeholders, and maintaining consultation records. The role focuses on salmonid and aquatic habitat conservation across the West Coast Region and is primarily remote with periodic regional travel.

Provides administrative and program support for NOAA student scholarship programs, including application review, student progress tracking, records maintenance, inquiries, events, meetings, recruitment, outreach, correspondence, calendars, alumni tracking, and scholar badge coordination. The role also guides junior contractor staff and serves as an on-site supervisor.

Provides scientific and technical support for NOAA Fisheries consultations under the Endangered Species Act and Magnuson-Stevens Act. Reviews biological assessments, permit applications, environmental data, and restoration proposals; evaluates impacts on aquatic species and habitats; prepares biological opinions, letters of concurrence, NEPA documentation, incidental take permits, and regulatory responses. Coordinates onboarding and offboarding for personnel, including facility, IT, and vessel access. Manages eQIP, SF-85, fingerprinting, background investigation, CAC/PIV, and credentialing documentation. Prepares personnel forms, recruitment packages, and contract files; enters data into NOAA administrative systems; and develops, reviews, and maintains SOPs, process workflows, instructional manuals, and technical documentation.

Supports NOAA fisheries biosampling operations through field observation, biological sample collection, data standardization, QA/QC reporting, SQL and SAS analysis, electronic data collection improvements, sampler training, technical documentation, and outreach. The role monitors sampling protocol adherence, develops reports and training materials, collaborates with application developers and technology vendors, and responds to historical data and custom reporting requests.

Reviews and validates fisheries observer data, resolves inconsistencies with observers, conducts trip and electronic monitoring audits, evaluates observer performance, and supports training, outreach, gear maintenance, and data collection improvements. The role may involve after-hours support, at-sea observer duties, research cruises, field deployments, and stakeholder communication. Candidates need a relevant bachelor’s degree, fisheries knowledge, data and database skills, communication abilities, and physical capacity for demanding marine fieldwork.

Conducts bioinformatics research and genomic data analysis supporting marine mammal, turtle, fisheries, and conservation programs. Responsibilities include molecular technique development, NGS and population genomics analysis, eDNA and metabarcoding, statistical modeling, data visualization, data management, project coordination, laboratory support, scientific publishing, and collaboration with government, academic, and international partners. The role is based at a NOAA fisheries laboratory and may include short-duration sea and fieldwork.

Develop, test, deploy, and sustain operational scientific applications supporting space weather forecasting. Responsibilities include Python and Java development, REST APIs, AWS integration, Docker containerization, infrastructure automation, CI/CD, database management, scientific data integration, production transitions, troubleshooting, and Tier 3 on-call support in a high-availability operational environment.

Manages marine mammal and sea turtle research data, surveys, protocols, quality control, metadata, archival, and dissemination. Coordinates field research, investigators, ship and survey logistics, equipment, reporting, publications, websites, and stakeholder presentations. The role is based in Pascagoula, Mississippi, with laboratory work, limited shipboard duties, and potential domestic and international travel.
