Law Reform Legal Interns support impact litigation and policy initiatives addressing systemic issues affecting Legal Aid clients. Responsibilities may include legal and factual research, client interviewing, discovery and trial practice, drafting legal papers, policy memoranda, legislative testimony, and coalition or public education work. Applicants must be second- or third-year law students with strong research, writing, communication, analytical, and organizational skills, plus a commitment to racial and social justice.

Provides immigration legal services through limited-scope clinics, including preparing applications, consulting with clients, conducting community presentations, training volunteers, identifying legal trends, and developing client resources and best practices. The attorney manages high-volume matters, collaborates with Legal Aid staff and community partners, supports grant-related data updates, and represents the organization in community settings.

Provides paralegal support for criminal defense trial offices, including researching case records, drafting legal documents, filing court materials, preparing cases for trial and discovery, maintaining client files, obtaining court records, interviewing clients, coordinating with attorneys, and connecting clients with services. The role requires legal research, strong writing and organization, computer proficiency, knowledge of New York criminal law, and relevant education or legal work experience.

Provides psychosocial assessments, crisis intervention, brief counseling, mitigation investigation, referrals, and advocacy for criminal defense clients. Interviews clients and collateral contacts, reviews life-history records, develops treatment and alternative sentencing plans, prepares bail applications, and advocates in court. The role collaborates with attorneys, court personnel, correctional staff, and community organizations while managing a diverse caseload and visiting clients in community, detention, and healthcare settings.

Provides administrative and client-support services for criminal defense attorneys, including maintaining case files, entering and retrieving database information, preparing reports, updating court calendars, conducting records and conflicts checks, assembling legal materials, and assisting clients and families. The role also includes courthouse support, occasional arraignment coverage, reception duties, document processing, filing, mail handling, and liaison work between attorneys and clients.

Provides legal consultation and representation to noncitizens in non-detained removal proceedings, affirmative immigration matters, asylum cases, USCIS matters, and Family Court SIJS proceedings. The attorney manages case files, handles a high-volume caseload, trains volunteers and law students, conducts community education, collaborates across interdisciplinary teams, and represents Legal Aid in immigrant communities.

Supervising Attorney will lead Prisoners' Rights Project litigation and policy work, maintain an active caseload, direct legislative and administrative advocacy, supervise and develop staff, coordinate with pro bono and internal partners, manage unit operations, and conduct community education and outreach to advance systemic reforms for incarcerated people.

Leads the citywide Employment Law Unit, overseeing employment litigation, direct legal services, systemic advocacy, policy reform, community partnerships, grants, and staff management. Supervises attorneys, paralegals, and managers; develops litigation strategy; ensures quality representation; manages resources and reporting; and represents the unit with community organizations, agencies, elected officials, courts, and media. The role also supports coalition-building, trainings, outreach, organizational planning, and workplace equity initiatives.

Support employee relations by conducting investigations into policy violations, managing employee cases, coaching managers on performance and disciplinary actions, facilitating ADA accommodation requests, and collaborating with HR and legal teams to resolve conflicts and improve workplace relations. May provide trainings and participate in professional development.

The Staff Attorney will develop and conduct federal litigation, assist with class action lawsuits, provide consultation, and train staff on federal court issues for non-citizens.

Supervising Attorney will coordinate and supervise the Immigrant Opportunity Initiatives program, mentor and train attorneys and staff, provide legal oversight and strategy for non-detained removal defense and affirmative immigration matters, advise on appeals and federal litigation, manage caseloads, assist with program development, funding, reporting, and engage in policy advocacy.
