Prototype, bench test, and deploy optical diagnostic components for fusion machines. The intern will work with polarimetry, optical interferometry, fiber alignment, laser safety, and optical laboratory testing to measure plasma density, temperature, shape, and other parameters. The role is full-time and onsite in Everett, Washington, for at least 12 consecutive weeks during summer 2027, with analysis performed using MATLAB or Python.

Conduct computational plasma simulations of fusion machines using Helion’s simulation tools. Develop and execute a research study focused on FRC formation, translation, merging, or compression; analyze results, collaborate with a mentor and research team, and present findings in a technical report.

Design, build, and maintain software for fusion plant control, diagnostics, automation, data acquisition, operator workflows, and real-time system coordination. Integrate software with sensors, actuators, controllers, databases, visualization tools, and complex hardware. Collaborate across electrical, firmware, mechanical, IT, operations, and science teams while improving platform reliability, usability, and scalability. Develop prototypes and production systems, debug cross-disciplinary issues, and support the full software lifecycle onsite.

Operate and improve high-energy fusion experiments and pulsed-power systems. Own experiment readiness, pre-shot setup, system checks, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, vacuum system reliability, and diagnostic interpretation. Drive safe, repeatable machine performance and continuous operational improvement while collaborating with engineering, science, and production teams.

Participate in a 12-week onsite internship developing fusion power technology. Design and test hardware across mechanical, structural, fluid, thermal, electromagnetic, and control subsystems; investigate and resolve hardware issues on integrated fusion generators; apply engineering principles; and collaborate with experienced engineers on next-generation systems.

Supports Helion’s fusion fuel-cycle team by operating and improving gas separation systems. Responsibilities include optimizing system parameters, designing and conducting experiments, collecting and analyzing data, modifying test setups, following safety protocols, and presenting findings and recommendations. This is a 12-week, full-time, onsite summer internship in Everett, Washington.

Develop data foundations, schemas, ontologies, and AI-enabled tools for fusion hardware systems. Analyze telemetry, experimental, and time-series data to support operators, detect anomalies, diagnose hardware behavior, and improve engineering decisions. Build evaluation frameworks, data pipelines, analytics-ready datasets, and AI workflows involving retrieval, summarization, semantic search, and anomaly analysis while collaborating with engineering, science, and operations teams onsite in Everett, Washington.

Design, fabricate, test, and validate analog and digital circuits, PCBs, data acquisition systems, and electronic instruments for fusion generators. Support senior engineers with design updates and documentation, troubleshoot hardware issues, develop qualification plans, and apply engineering principles to novel high-voltage electrical hardware.

Own Helion’s fusion power plant system architecture, top-level requirements, subsystem interfaces, and verification planning. Lead trade studies, design reviews, integration risk mitigation, configuration management, and change control. Develop Interface Control Documents and ensure traceability from plant-level objectives to implemented hardware. Partner across electrical, mechanical, controls, science, software, business, and supplier teams to drive technical consensus and scale systems engineering processes for production power plants.

Lead company-wide compensation strategy, including salary, hourly pay, incentives, equity programs, manufacturing pay structures, compensation cycles, and executive advising. Partner with Finance, Talent, People Business Partners, and leadership on budgets, equity forecasting, governance, offers, promotions, and employee education. Build scalable programs for technical, corporate, and large hourly manufacturing teams while balancing strategic ownership with hands-on execution.

Own the end-to-end accounts payable process, including invoice processing, two- and three-way matching, payment execution, vendor record maintenance, reconciliations, exception resolution, and month-end close support. Partner with Finance, Supply Chain, Procurement, Receiving, and business stakeholders to maintain controls, prevent fraud, resolve discrepancies, support audits, test systems, and improve AP processes. The role is onsite in Seattle and may require extended hours or weekends during critical deadlines.

Support FP&A activities including budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, monthly reporting, variance analysis, and management account setup. Partner with business leaders across communications, marketing, security, operations, and facilities to provide financial guidance and actionable insights. Analyze operating and capital expenditures, develop KPI reporting, and enhance decision-making using Excel, ERP, BI, and AI tools.

Design and integrate electrical architectures for fusion machines, including power distribution, controls interfaces, sensors, and communication networks. Own system requirements, interface control documents, verification planning, hardware bring-up, troubleshooting, and subsystem integration. Collaborate with electrical, controls, mechanical, test, commissioning, and supplier teams to deliver reliable hardware from concept through deployment.

Lead integration and test activities for fusion generator prototypes, collaborating with teams to ensure operational readiness and manage engineering projects.

Executes internal and external corporate communications, including weekly newsletters, town halls, executive messaging, speaking engagements, media relations, and major announcements. Manages communications calendars, coordinates cross-functional contributors, develops accurate stories, tracks engagement and media performance, and improves programs using feedback and data. The role requires excellent writing, sound judgment, strong organization, autonomy, and the ability to manage sensitive information and competing deadlines onsite in Everett, Washington.

Lead the electrical engineering team, overseeing high-voltage circuit design, project management, and cross-disciplinary collaboration to enhance machine performance for fusion power systems.

The Senior Experimental Scientist will lead the development and analysis of plasma diagnostics for fusion generators, ensuring alignment with operational needs and optimizing performance through collaboration with various engineering and science teams.

Lead and scale a multidisciplinary Plant Control Software team building embedded, supervisory, networking, and data systems that control and observe a fusion power plant. Own delivery across firmware, application, networking, and data layers, coordinate cross-discipline schedules with hardware teams, establish engineering principles and processes, and hire and grow engineers.

The Principal Experimental Scientist will lead RF pre-ionization development for fusion generators, integrating various technical inputs and enhancing plasma performance through rigorous experimental design and execution.

Lead and scale the indirect procurement function: hire and manage a procurement team, develop and execute category strategies across software, services, hardware, capex and R&D, run end-to-end sourcing and negotiations (MSAs, SOWs), partner with stakeholders, and improve cost, supplier performance, and supply chain resilience.
