Design, develop and test mechanical components and assemblies for advanced scientific instruments. Lead design reviews, coordinate manufacture with workshops and suppliers, integrate multidisciplinary systems, and support testing, implementation and continuous improvement of prototype devices.

Support deposition, curation and data-management for the BioImage Archive and EMPIAR. Develop data pipelines, implement metadata standards (e.g., LinkML, OME‑Zarr), collaborate with developers and community, create documentation and training, and apply AI methods to improve operations.

Develop next-generation sample-preparation workflows to standardize vitrification across diverse microbes and enable multiplexed sample preparation on single EM grids by integrating microfluidic encapsulation, jet vitrification and correlative cryoFIB/ET to allow high-throughput comparative cryo-electron tomography studies.

Maintain and curate microbial genomes in Ensembl, coordinate release workflows, evaluate and integrate microbial annotation tools, develop and test functional annotation pipelines, improve automation, write documentation, participate in code review and collaboration with internal and external research communities.

Provide day-to-day support for EMBL’s International PhD programme, handling fellow and supervisor enquiries, contract administration, university registration, recruitment platforms, promotion, stakeholder communication, statistics, and organising trainings and events.

Design, develop and operate backend services, data access APIs and submission web applications for BioStudies. The ESPOD postdoctoral fellowship supports three-year research projects combining experimental (wet lab) and computational approaches at EMBL-EBI and the Wellcome Sanger Institute. Lead user research and design for AI-powered search and data-heavy features across Europe PMC and GRIST. Plan workshops, translate insights into wireframes and prototypes, run usability testing, and collaborate with product, engineers, and ML researchers to deliver usable, transparent AI experiences for research stakeholders.
