The Locomotive Engineer drives diesel-electric locomotives, ensuring safety, interpreting signals, monitoring gauges, and complying with regulations. They communicate with conductors, perform minor maintenance, and report on operational status while working in varied environments.

The Conductor coordinates train crew activities, ensures rail safety, operates switches and derails, and inspects rail cars following regulations.
